Should Tony Bellew have taken on Whyte?

True. I was one (of many) that expected him to get totally stomped by Makabu, and thought I saw that confirmed when he dropped Bellew with the first good shot he landed. Never expected such a turnaround though, and it really made me look at Bellew in a different light.

But in today's CW scene, Bellew would never have kept his belt for long. The top guys are just too good, and with all kinds of hard to overcome styles.
I think he's an overachiever.

 

True enough. He's done very well out of boxing, for what he's working with.

 

Didnt he admit a number of years ago that the euro (was even British title? remember) was a world title to him.

 

He has massive overachived but fair play him apart Stevenson he has beat whoever put in front of him. Would get far more respect if he took on best cruiserweight but can see why he avoiding them loke plague he pron loses least top 5 or 6 and he is chasing a payday final stage of career.

Do wonder tho why not fight whyte a would actuall rather see that than some crap Joshua fights. If heard actually put on a great undercard none of Katie Taylor or crap like that a decent card and maybe not make a massive profit but build white profile up more long term thinking. u could sell it well both are well known fighters think white wins then sets up fight parker or wilder etc

 

You'd have to be a mug to buy Bellew-Whyte as a PPV.

But the same is true for Bellew-Haye 2.

Why fight someone like Whyte when you can make a ton of money being part of Fury’s return to boxing? It’s a win-win. Nobody expects him to beat Fury and thus he can bravely lose...or he can catch him with a shot and shock the world.

 

Who wants to watch Whyte, no power, awful boxer, boring as hell, don't have a clue how his name is still mentioned in anything

 

Did Bellew get lucky against Haye or was he savvy enough to know that Haye’s body would crumble should he avoid a big shot in the early rounds? We know boxing isn’t always about skill set, speed and power...it’s also about intelligence and like him or hate him, he called it right and made millions.

He’d take Fury 12 rounds. I personally think he’d lose every round but I don’t think it would do his legacy any harm. He’d beat Haye again too.

 

I think Bellew is a clever underated fighter. He knew that Haye body would crumble and if the rematch happened then he would win again.
If he fought a peak Tyson Fury then Bellew would lose however there is no way Fury will be back to his best so again this could be a clever move on Bellews behalf.
Why would he fight White? I think this would be a high risk fight which won't generate enough money. Personally I think bellew should chase Charr which would get him a World title. That would be a great achievement.
