Back in the good old days fighters mastered the art of cutting off the ring. Dudes need to start chasing chickens or something. LOL

They need to bring back the old warnings and DQs for 'refusal to engage' etc. Already has historical precedent so shouldn't be complained about. There's a difference between being a mover and whatever the **** Scull and Haney were doing.

I am a lifelong boxing fan, and I turned the scull Canelo fight off out of boredom after a few rounds. I cannot recall ever seeing a professional match with a top-ranked fighter being that awful. Scull absolutely should have been disqualified for failure to engage. Canelo was slow, but at least he was trying, I just think his body is worn down after 67 professional fights. I blame Scull for dancing and doing gymnastics with a silly smile on his face instead of actually boxing.

No their opponents are simply not good enough. Great fighters don’t cry about movers they cut the ring off effectively and deal with them. As the great Joe Louis “He can run but he cannot hide”.

Nothing wrong with fighters who move as long as they are actually throwing. Problem is with fighters like Haney is they have no pride and feel no obligation to the fans, and will happily pocket the bag whilst doing all they can to avert any action.

I wanted to say something similar to this. I think I don't have a problem with Haney and Shakur moving or 'running'. I enjoyed Mayweather a lot and also Rigondeaux. Even Haney and Shakur are interesting to watch for periods.

But especially Haney always looks 1 or 2 levels above his opponent but still fights as conservative as possible. Looking way bigger, moving better, controlling everything and no risk whatsoever. There is no fun there at all, no playing, nothing.

I am certainly not talking Ben Whitaker shenanigans, he is awful and demeaning. But when watching the boxers I like, I dream of how it would be to be in their shoes in that moment and move the way they do. Rigondeaux was so impressive with every movement. Mayweather was so smart and skilled.

With Haney I really have nothing to envy. Putting myself in his shoes I would feel like a worker doing the night shift. Managing my win in an optimized way. No fun. Just skill and the inevitable outcome of dedicated preparation. Philosophically that's something to be admired, but that is not why I am watching the sport, apparently.

I wonder if Haney loves the sport or rather does it for his dad. I respect him putting that relationship high up. Not everyone manages to do that. But I am not sure about his relationship to the sport.

Haney actually threw and landed more than Garcia, Canelo and Scull. Landed more than Romero too.

Wouldn't mind seeing their purses decreased for the performances that they showed in fighting negative. That would be a good way for these "movers" to take notice in fighting better next time.

    Exactly.

The movers and the shakers - those who box and move, and those who shake in their boots and get on the bike.

Its not really about the moving. Its about the lack of punching. You can move while still being engaging.

There is a big difference between moving in order to control distance so that you can win the exchanges, or moving to relocate the fight in a better part of the ring, and moving so that there are no exchanges.

As others have said, Id have performance bonuses and penalties.

As the one shelling out the money, absolutely he should. They can always find another promotor. Sure there are tons of promotor just lining up to give them millions to run.

How do you quantify it, though?

It's got to be set in a way that it can be contractually enforced...

But equally it can't be so restrictive or so punitive that the fighters just don't take the fights at all.

As much as creating an environment where only more engaging fighters get fights sounds great, it's kinda interesting to see a runner get hunted down sometimes as well...

Dare I say it, the main onus on the guys organising these cards should be to get a good mix - not just of levels, but styles.
