The question is why did Usyk look so bad last night?

He was a career heaviest, he had a noticeable gut compared to his usual shape. He didn't feint as much, feet looked slow and looked like he couldn't let his hands go...was it age? was it complacency? was he distracted by events in Ukraine?

We wont know until he gets in the ring again...so id say dont retire.

I would like him to set the record straight with Verhoeven before he retires. This is not a good note to go out on.

Up to himself, I don't retire other guys, unless you're running his money, all you got is an opinion.

And most people who want him to retire seem to want him to retire to avoid defeat, which is a bit forum politic coffee house crap. That has nothing to do with the real world. He may feel he has to have enough money to last him the whole of the rest of his life and raise his children up. He may feel he wants to continue to contribute meaningful amounts to the existential war his country is fighting. He may suffer from depression when he's inactive and want to fight for as long as he feels he can without doing himself harm. It's up to him. "Should this fighter retire" always means nothing as a question because there's only one guy who can answer that question.

It's nice to speculate though, so I do get it.

I think he felt the big guys power early and realised he couldnt afford to get caught with it too often. Threw him off his game.

Joshua and Fury can generate more power loading up on shots. Shots he can mostly avoid but the kickboxers unloaded shots we,re harder than either of them.

Another reason i think the kickboxer was defo on something.

Usyk is happy enough to risk boxing you knowing he can take an unloaded punch off any of them. He was smart enough to know tho he couldnt take too many of that fellas unloaded shots. Made it difficult for usyk to get his game flowing.

The speed/power and stamina from the big guy was unnatural bearing in mind how he fought. He was using a lot of energy. More so than any heavyweight does. Usyk has the highest workrate...but hes a master at conserving energy. The big guy was fighting stupidly in terms of energy conservation at 18.5 stone and never once tired. His punches also didnt slow down and was generating power from arm punches. No way imo was that natural strength/power/stamina.

Yes. He's in serious physical decline now. His style depends on speed, reflexes, stamina, which wane before size and power. Even if he is more dialled in next time physically and mentally, he will be 40 or on the cusp of it. Kabayel would be very dangerous at this stage and it doesn't pass risk-reward legacy wise. If Usyk retires it's an almost perfect career, if he beats Kabayel then it's a good win but not as big as some of his others, and if Usyk loses it would (wrongly, in my view) take quite a bit of the shine off his career, while adding more wear, and he has made a ton of money.

Just because "everyone" wants that fight - I don't think it will happen; although I hope they will :)

Usyk will continue to beat boxers for the next couple of fights anyway. I dont think he will luck out against the kickboxer the next time tho. Best to avoid.

The kickboxer bounced around the ring for 11 rounds at 18.5 stone without tiring. Generated power to put off usyk with arm punches who,s faced joshua/fury/dubois without being put off with 1 pro boxing fight under his belt a ten week training camp off peter fury and beat up a generational boxing talent even tho hes pretty useless at boxing.

If the big guys clean...i,d eat my hat.

You rarely ever see a guy built like a brick ****house bouncing around like that and is still lively in the 11th, against a guy with a notorious engine and when he is used to fighting five rounds in his discipline.

You rarely see it because we all know how it ends. Usyks main strength is probably his stamina. Yet he conserves energy by taking rounds off. Starting slow and building up and throwing mostly soft punches. This guy was about two stone heavier...more muscled. Inexperienced in a boxing ring. 37 years old. Never fought 12 rounds before. Threw solid punches the whole fight and never stopped bouncing round the ring all without tiring.

I,d question it if he was 21 years old let alone 37.

Bud led the way 'out on top' and so should have he too. Now he's been dragged into this retirement legacy mess

I remember at one point Peter said ‘don’t bounce on your feet, step’, seemed like he was inefficient in the constant movement but this is all new for him so makes sense it can be refined and adjusted. I don’t know what his diet and endurance/cardio routine is but it’d be interesting and hopefully there’s no chemical help. He seemed too bulky so you’d expect him to be stiff and a front runner but had a disturbing fluidity in his work and the consistency became more ragged but he was still within range of Usyk’s energy bar. That was probably the most impressive thing as Usyk goes up the gears as the fight goes on.

Bearing in mind that conflict won't go away, it just cements why he should retire even further.

He literally has nothing else to achieve at this point other than a loss.
