I disagree. He retired and that forfeited his title. If retirement had no effect then Gene Tunney would still be champ.

PS-I think that Wlad is the best heavyweight in the world right now. I think he is faster, more athletic, and more skilled offensively than Vitali. Though the brothers would never fight and we wont know how it would turn out.

Wladimir deserves the ring belt. He is the universally recognized linear HW champion of the world.

I would say Holyfield should be Ring Champion ... he is the oldest right now.

In fact, if Lewis came back and fought Wlad, Wlad would be fighting Lewis to become Lineal champ if he won. Wlad is NOT Lineal champ as yet.

Being given the RING belt for beating Chagaev doesnt make you lineal champ, especially when Chagaev was rated number 3, Wlad hasnt beaten the number 2 ranked guy, a guy who has a claim to the title and holder of WBC title, the most legitamate title since its the one passed directly from Lewis`s retirial and fought for between the best 2 guys at the time [one of whom had just ko`d Wlad!]. Vitali also has a RING belt and is unbeaten since becoming RING champion.

To be lineal without facing the last lineal champ he would have to become undisputed champion and start a new line. He has to beat Vitali without a doubt and also Valuev since he holds a belt.

Well, resume wise, Wlad is to be higher ranked by a mile, abilitywise, it's still Vitali. Although father time is closing in and might catch him soon, which still does not say much about Vitalis skills when he was prime. As a fighter, Vitali > Wlad, as a sports resume it's the other way around. Wlad probably would beat Vitali even now already, but couldn't come close to beating the version who annihilated Hide.

No, he shouldn't. I think that Vitali is the better fighter of the two, but Wladimir has a better resume than his brother. Vitali doesn't come close to the continuity of his brother, a continuity which I find remarkable. Wladimir has been going from win to win for some years now, facing the best the division has to offer. Nobody deserves the ring belt as much as him.

Evander Holyfield is older than Vitali so he should be THE MAN!
