We've had a proposal for a new way to run the tipping comp, pm'ing the weeks picks rather than putting them all to see. The general idea is to make it a bit more interesting since a lot of weeks people tend to follow a trend. Or prehaps *cough* copy another persons picks in order to never fall behind them Making the change is no trouble and we don't have to do it straight away anyway. Feel free to debate.
I suppose we can debate the fights on offer even though we won't be seeing any tips (be interesting to get some trash talk/analysis happenning since all we do for the most part is put up tips)... except my tips early in the week, since a) i'm doing the scoring, b) I shouldn't get to see everybodies tips before I make my own picks and c) Peckerhead has a point.
I think public tipping is interesting.. you get to at least see how others tip, and how they rate different fighters..
I think we should make it private but have a special trash talking thread to keep it social as notdye mentioned, i voted change it ASAP but if the current comp only goes for like 10 weeks then finish this one i think..
I'm split down the middle. Tipping by pm would make more sense because it would ensure people aren't copying others. But as someone pointed out it takes all social aspect out of the comp and I can see people losing interest in it very quickly.
I think as long as we post the scores up Every Week people wont lose interest. up until now we only saw the ladder every 3 or so weeks. THe other thing that would be good would be to show everyone's individual scores every week too (like you would in a footy tipping comp). This would keep interest in the comp and generate chat about each others scores and why you picked a certain fight as a joker etc... And, if anyone forgets to tip one wee, rather than get no points he will get points equal to the lowest scoring member for that round.
or better still whoever we PM the tips to can then post everyone's tips once the round is over :good:
I've decided leave it as it is. It works fine and generally the people who know nothing fall away anyway.
