Are same day weigh ins the way forward for boxing. I know the day before weigh ins were introduced for the saftey of the boxer but it seems to have had the opposite affect, now we have a lot of boxers who simply dry out to there chosen weight then enter the ring two divisions above or more, which is dangerous and unfair if the other boxer is natural at that weight. With the advanced knowledge of nutrition and science in the sport the boxer can now pack on some serious weight between the weigh in and the fight so for instance what was a welterweight fight is now a welter vs a middleweight. This is bull****, fighters killing themselves to make weight to gain an advantage is dangerous and can result in at best unfair fights and at worst potentially fatal fights. If we had the same day weigh ins surely the fights would be more competative and fair with boxers fighting at their natural weight. The boxers weight would have to be checked all through training camp right up to the weigh in making sure the boxer is healthy and fit and fully hydrated, surely this is what weights were invented for in the first place.:?
This will never happen. Everyone knows where they stand. Although I will admit some boxers have a better ability to drain water weight and then rehydrate... Cough, Clottey, Cintron, Williams Cough. Same say weigh ins leaves fighters drained and vulnerable in the fight. Their brain unshielded from blows by a layer of fluid.
Shattered Glass That is a double edge statement as it could be reversed and say that water shedding the day before can cause the same result. If a boxer has to be at weight 3 days before a fight and DAY of fight. The commission keeping track (as they are supposed to do) Then the fighter should be at his best physical condition. The Pandora's box that is the "day before" weigh in should have never been opened. But closing that is like removing the 10 Point system (which is even more ridiculous) Or asking all the Alphabet soups to get a Federal Boxing Commission. It just will not happen. (greed)
