Should we hype up the ring entrances and 'the event' to bring in the casual fans?

I'm in agreement with the haters; there's nothing like the organic atmosphere prevalent before a competitive fight; be it the UK, Mexico, the US, anywhere. I'll take a quick explosive ring walk, and a genuinely hyped up crowd over some musical lubricated, prerecorded clap-trap and light show, punctuated by a corridor of heavy bags and topped off by a one-sided beat down of a bum, any day of the week.

We are assuming the fight would be a good match up, we arent talking about Klitchko fights.

  3. What about all the fights that aren't good match ups?

Well in that case why do we need the BS then? Oh to get the casuals on side! Fck the casuals, if the upshot of pandering to them is the universal implementation of this inane BS. You start down that road of selling 'the event' rather than the fight and it's a slippery slope in which the fight, and more importantly, the actual composition of the fight, becomes an increasingly secondary matter.

Imagine prior to a world title fight a rock band/singer perform their new single 'live' for the first time

It would bring in the MTV audience. I hate American football, but note the musicians who perform a half time during the Super Bowl

David Price is fighting on Champions League final night. There is no clash on Sky, but will those attending the fight be watiching undercard fights or the match on a big screen?

The big fights certainly need to be more of an 'event'.

Look at Pac's last few fights, Top Rank didn't go all German but the intros were great. They had the big screen above the ring playing the "this is boxing" promo video, Buffer doing his thing, great lighting and that really got the crowd up for the fight.

And when you're watching it on telly it feels like a special event.

Too many times we have big/meaningful fights that have **** atmospheres or half-empty arenas and it doesn't look good for the sport.
