Should we pressure congress with a petition calling for a national boxing commission?

Fighters ducking each other, corrupt scoring, conflicts of interests and messy sanctioning bodies. The sport we love has long been plagued by a select few who benefit from this exploitation, while they benefit, we the fans, suffer.

The fact that boxing doesn't have a proper commission in the USA is astounding.

But I believe we can change this. Senator John McCain, whatever you think of him, has tried to reform boxing.

A federal boxing law would regulate boxing as other sports are. Our sport would have organisation.

The article is almost 3 years old, but that's quite recent.

Remember that Justin Bieber petition which gained 100,000 signatures? The congress HAD to respond because a specific no. of signs were signed!

My idea is to create a petition to pressure congress to see whether a national boxing commission could be passed. We would also be enlisting in the help of senator John McCain.

This is an idea, but what do y'all think?

If there was a commission, there'd be a better chance at unification fights too.

I think a grassroots movement could pull this off. I know a lot of casual sports fans who would be into boxing if it were not for the chaos of it.

While I agree that it really needs a US boxing commission I do not think McCain is the man. Years ago, I doubt many of you were around then, McCain actually agreed to a bill that would BAN BOXING!! entirely.I wouldn't trust him. In my opinion, & I'm dead serious, the man to head it would be Teddy Atlas. Teddy LOVES the sport of boxing & is one of the very few commentators that will come out & expose the cheating that goes on
    I'd vote for him anyday

When did McCain agree to that? He boxed himself and he seems to love the sport.

So we are at the brink of massive war with Iran and China, the economy is shakey, and immigration issues are getting worse and you all want Congress to look into a sport because you hate 1 man. A bunch of grown lames you are. Grow up man-boys the world is real.

It's hard to fathom that boxing has muddled thru for so long. It shows me that it is the promoters who hold and maintain the power, and that is ridiculous. Take the power from the promoters, the leverage from the alphabet orgs and put an entity in place that would oversee it all.
