I rewatched the 11th round and noticed something right away. The slomo is what making people think the AA purposely cheated and that AD faked it. you'll notice that once AD slips (happens at 0:56) AA hits him 1 (0:57) second later and AD passes out at 0:58. So everything happened in 2 seconds so I dont think that is enough time to make a conscious decision to cheat by both guys. When you watch it in slomo it feels like AA had enough time to think about and that AD took a long time to fall, but once again it all happened in 2 seconds so now i don't think AD was faking it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0LvAbRSIOA&feature=player_embedded#
I wonder if Abraham thought to himself. " wow how can a person duck down this far ? he's almost at my knee 's height. That is some fancy move. But NOT FANCY ENOUGH!! Prepare for my hyper upprcut mega ton punch!! "
I understand what you're saying but it was clear Dirrell slipped. AA was jabbing while Dirrel was slipping, he saw him go down and still went for the KO. Maybe AA was caught up on the moment but I don't think so, he was looking for Dirrel, he wasn't trading with him.
I guess you missed the boxing lesson Direll dished out, the body work and the only knockdown of Abraham's career last night right?
I`d give Abraham the benefit of the doubt. Don`t think he has a reputation as a dirty fighter eg low blows headbutts. He was behind and knew he desperately needed a KO,think he threw the punch instinctively. The ref had no option other the to disqualify him though.
No that kind of stuff happens all the time in boxing the guys swinging before the guy gets on the canvas. Lost count the amount of times a guys been hit on the floor and there wasn't a DQ. The DIFFERENCE is Dirrell play acted like he'd been ko'd so it left the ref no choice.
As I said before, we can´t blame both fighters for their actions. I have to give Dirrell much respect for his great performance. Abraham never found a way to deal with him in the early and mid rounds. I gave Arthur only one, maybe two rounds. But I have to say that the ref was very bad. Where was the referee, when Dirrell sliped in the corner? He was at the other side of the ring and couldn´t interfere. Before of that he made some strange decisions, too. I don´t know if Dirrell faked the KO or if he was seriously hurt, but it´s Abraham own fault hitting a guy that kneels on the canvas. So the DQ itself is ok. If Dirrell had gotten up, the fight would have continued, but I don´t want assume something to him. Dirrell put on a strong performance and would have won a clear UD, or maybe Abraham would have knocked him out in round 12, if the fight had gone on. We´ll never know, but I´m sad that we didn´t see the last round, which would have been dramatically, I think. So the end of the fight has a negative connotation, but Dirrell won and it´s ok with the rules I think. I hope AA comes back from this strong and knocks Froch out in Nottingham next round. Dirrell-Ward should be a great fight, too, with Dirrell gained some confidence. So lets look forward to the upcoming fights.
Agreed. How could a guy concoct that type of plan and put it into motion in that amount of time without forethought? As for AA, he had plenty of time to pull his punch, and obviously should have. His post fight comments were pathetic, but I still don't think he did it with malicious intent(meaning, any more than a normal punch during a fight) I think he genuinely thought it was acceptable, which is dumb, but in the heat of the moment...... Ridiculous. Not worth more than this response. Agreed. Expecting guys to have the cold, detached, analytical presence of mind in the ring that we have sitting on our couches at home is a little silly. Things happen in the heat of battle that would never happen if a person had a split second more to analyze the situation. Its an unfortunate event, and AA will never forget it, but let's hope he and others learn from it.
