I have just posted on a thread about what I do not like in boxing.... Mine was the best not fighting the best and the weigh in not taking place on the day of the contest....

I would much prefer to see the weigh in on the day of the contest at lunchtime..... we know lots of fighters hammer the weigh on after the weigh in.... most top of the card fighters are always in the ring about 30 hours after the weigh in...... what are your thoughts on this..?? :think

No. No deaths in a british ring for over a decade. The BBBC have done a grand job in this regards. Fighters safety comes first.

For me this is a two way street... The board should tigheten up there scrutiny of fighters weights pre and post contests.... allowing the weigh in to be much earlier in essence allows contests to be at a higher weight, it is just as dangerous to be hit by a heavier person as it is to be dehydrated going into the contest.... there is a strong arguement for both.....:yep

I can see both sides on this one. We dont want fighters going in dehydrated but if the weigh ins were on the day of a fight it may lead to more fighters going in at there natural weight.

I seen Alex Arthur saying he was burning 4000 calories a day but only taking in 1500 to make weight. That cant be good for his overall health in the long term.

An ex pro told me a few years back that the bbboc decided on previous day weigh-ins after the death of a scotsman, is this correct ?

I think it was two scotsmen fighting for a title, from what i remember.

    Cheers

I'm hoping they have to implement changes after this years Wimbledon, because of the death of a scotsman.

:good Agreed. If fighters are fighting dehydrated then that's no good thing- the weigh in system a night before fights is one of the things I am most happy with in boxing- safety should always come first.

James Murray against Drew Docherty I think, British super bantam, not actually sure if that was what triggered previous day weight ins, but I think that's the fight you mean.

They changed it for safety, like 15 rounders to 12 rounders. These things will and should not be reverted back to how it was in the past.

thats one argument. and as a fighter you will know better than most

i always thought it was Mancini vs Kim

i think them rules were brought in as knee jerk reactions and werent thought threw.

My idea is they should have a weigh in say a week before the fight and make sure the ifhgter is say within 8lbs of the weight then 3 days before the fight they are weighed agian and have to be 3 lbs over the weight then on the day they have to make the weight.

They should weigh in the day of the fight, what about the safety issue of for example a fight where two guys weigh in at 140 and when they step into the ring one weighs 142 and the other ways up in the 150's? cutting rounds from 15 to 12 was to fit into an hours tv programming.
