    What has Wilder done that would entitle him to the spot? He's currently rank 3 in the world and rank 3 in many people's eyes, why?

    His best win? Ortiz, who's fought nobody besides Wilder. Smashed twice vs Fury. Has made a career fighting people who aren't even Chisora level, won his title from... STIVERNE!

    Maybe he's not even a top 5.

    Thoughts?

    I'd give the number 3 spot right now to Povetkin. Has been active has possibly could be. Fought eliminators, and has shown real ambition. His KO vs Whyte shows that even though he's old and shot to bits that his skill and intelligence is still a real threat.

    Not even Joshua KO'd Whyte as Brutally as that. Povetkin's KO was the best thing I've seen in boxing for a while, in regards to pure skill.

    His faint then uppercut was a masterpiece of boxing. 100% perfectly timed shot. Who else could do something like that right now?

    The heavyweight division isn't exactly stacked right now. Yeah, Wilder has fought plenty of bums, but who hasn't? And to Wilder's credit, he's got a better KO percentage against those same bums than anybody else. Is Covidkin's resume really better? He beat an old Chris Byrd, and an old Hasim Rahman, but lost to both Klitschko and Joshua, and he himself is now an old timer at 41 years old and he's recovering from a horrible illness whose long term effects are a potential crapshoot. Sorry, but i'd still easily put Wilder over Covidkin.

    Beating Whyte isn't a decent scalp? Who has Wilder beaten that's better than Whyte?

    Andy Ruiz liquidation of Anthony Joshua was not revenged. So it easy to place Andy Ruiz ahead of Anthony Joshua

    1. Tyson Fury
    2. Deontay Wilder
    3. Andy Ruiz
    Those who argue to keep Andy Ruiz-Anthony Joshua ahead of Fury-Wilder have a case based on nominal analysis. Especially that we didn't see Andy Ruiz vs Wilder-Fury, so in theory some can make a case that Andy Ruiz is #1 (by undermining Wilder & by effect debasing Fury)

    Andy Ruiz strong claim for the #1 spot is solely based on Anthony Joshua resume, if Anthony Joshua turns out to be better than Fury & Wilder then we can accept that Andy Ruiz is the #1 Heavyweight of this generation.

    Until then we have to Rank Fury-Wilder above Andy Ruiz

    Wilder for sure. He brutally knocked out Ortiz twice who is a good fighter and he's a former World Champion.

    1. Whyte can't be there after his loss to Povetkin. If he avenges it, he's the one with the strongest claim to be number 3, considering his resume.
    2. Ruiz has no claim really, he hasn't fought since losing to Joshua.
    3. Povetkin beat Whyte but was knocked down three times prior to stopping him. He doesn't have a better claim than Wilder.

    Andy Ruiz destruction of Anthony Joshua is as violent and clear as Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Violent but still a victory

    Erm, it has been avenged because Joshua dominated Ruiz in the 2nd fight, doing what he should have done in the first fight. If AJ sticks behind that jab, Ruiz can't do anything.

    Is it Joshua's fault if Ruiz didn't bother to turn up? So Ruiz can just not bother turning up on the 3rd fight again and he can just say "I didn't show up" as an excuse?

    Joshua didn't use the same tactics the 2nd time, and to completely factor that out of the equation is stupidity. Joshua's win vs Ruiz was primarily down to tactics. Joshua was less aggressive and fought the same way Wladmir fought against many opponents to avoid defeat.

    Ruiz cannot just put on the performance of his life, then get fat and not bother and still keep his top rank.


    hHe got beat by Joshua fair and square and he's beneath Joshua until he proves otherwise. If Joshua can win every single round with his right hand tied behind his back, then that's tough **** for Ruiz.

    Yeah, happy he's the number 3 heavyweight out there. Sometimes you just need to let things shake out, his next opponent sounds like he might be matching with some ambition so hopefully that happens and it clears up nicely.

    Some folks love to downplay KO victories...I find it distasteful
    but I did hear this before

    • Salvador Sanchez had his 15 minutes of fame stopping Azumah Nelson
    • Andy Ruiz had his 15 minutes of fame stopping Anthony O. O. Joshua

    Its hard to argue against, mainly because Andy Ruiz win over Anthony Joshua was so clear & destructive...On the other hand Fury-Wilder is a closed circuit.

    Will be hard to prove until Fury or Wilder face Andy Ruiz or Andy Ruiz KO victim
