Should Wlad have used the rope-a-dope vs. AJ?

Fighting dirty? Throwing him in a pile of garbage?

Wlad using the rope a dope against Joshua would have resulted in him getting KO'd much faster than he did.

 

Rope a dope worked as Ali was expected to be fleet of foot, so surprise element, if Wlad tried that it would be seen through quickly by AJs corner and appropriate advice would be given to AJ, even if it only choose your punches wisely.

 

Nope, he should have finished him off when he had him down and almost out.

 

Rope-a-dope is basically just fighting off the ropes with a catchy name.

Foreman wasn't used to longer fights, especially in the heat of the jungle, but Ali was winning even before Foreman fatigued.

I don't think Wlad had the ability to fight off the ropes or the defense when being stationary to win in this style.

 

I like wlad but he is no where close to Ali in terms of defense and ability to absorb punches. His size and offensive ability are his main weapons in winning fight.

 

Vlad doesn't have the chin that Ali did to use the RAD successfully. I also doubt that he had the ability to absorb all those solid HW body shots that Ali absorbed using that style.

Ferdy Pacheco who served as Ali's personal Physician had observed that Ali was suffering permanent effects of absorbing those head and body shots and had recommended that Ali retire much prior to the Holme's Ali debacle but to no avail. So the style does have a very serious downside.

 

And Wlad dominated the rest of the fight flooring your boy in the process.

Sky had Wlad up by 3, the majority of people had Wlad up, Joshua was lucky he was fighting the version of Wlad he did.

AJ was done after round 5, stumbling about with that stupid grin he has his only plus was that he had youth on his side.

Wlad has probably the best footwork for a big heavyweight of all time.

 

He should have finished Joshua in rounds 6-9 when he was there for the taking.. Played it too safe and ultimately payed for it.

 

Joshua's own corner had Vlad winning the fight on points. Vlad's mistake was when he had Joshua drunk on the ropes, helpless, he should have landed a few hard body blows and Joshua would have been stopped, he was almost stopped anyway. Vlad would have won the rematch.............but he is rich and did not have the fire he used to have when he was young..............

It reminded me of when Linares took rounds off in Crolla I and Crolla still couldn't do anything to him. Then Jorge came back mopped the floor with Crolla in the rematch.
Joshua would have done the same which is why Wlad chose to retire.

The only reason Wlad won those rounds is because Joshua was recovering from punching himself out and taing a knock down. One he regained his energy he stepped forward and broke Wlad in half.
In retrospect the fight really wasn't that competitive.

No, the Fury fight wasn't competitive, AJ was out on his feet and losing the fight going into his second wind.

The fact a 41yo Wlad coming off the longest layoff in his career still took AJ too the brink says all there is.

You would cheer on Ian Huntley if he was to fight Wlad you ****ing mug.

 

wlads just doing his usual thing of running from a 2nd loss from soneone he couldnt handle, its his track record 100% for doing that.

Ostensibly though he has the reason that he needs to retire, more than a few years past that.
