Maybe. All I know for sure is after watching boxing for over 40 years, I have absolutely no interest in watching this and if this is what I get to watch..I'm going to stop following the sport.

I don't really care about lying blame, I just don't want to see this again, it's a waste of time.

oh cry me a river. Ali use to drape all over opponents like a wet towel. Tyson-Douglas was a hug fest. Lewis, Bowe, the list goes on. Now you get to watch one of the greatest fighters to ever lace them methodically and systematically demolish top-level opposition. Enjoy it while it lasts.

A fighter coming in with their head down gives a much taller opponent no chance to counter without risking a potential foul. Hence grabbing or clinching an opponent who uses such tactics while being ugly as sin can hardly be penalised. If Wlad couldn't hit Sasha without the risk of DQ what was he supposed to do, dance away for 12 rounds? That can't be done when you're that big - all your energy just goes on moving...Let Sasha push him onto the ropes then attack on the inside? Give up his advantages?

Push him off? How much energy does that take? A 225lb guy coming in low and stable. Well in the end Wlad sorta did, in frustration, swing Sasha round and over. You think he could that all night long? The great Manny Steward studied the tactics necessary for a really big guy to win and came up with what seems to be an almost unbeatable formula. We might look back to the pre- Steward HW era with fondness, but after both Lennox lewis and Wlad came under Mannys tutelage they always won ,but became boring as laundry.

Look I know it's ugly and I don't like to watch it either, but it's a direct consequence of the size of the modern era heavyweights. Wlad could dance around and make things look pretty for a few rounds and entertain us all, but if he does that he's reducing his chance of winning. When you've got 2 guys weighing in at 220, 240 lbs+ swinging at each other it becomes essentially a lottery.

I know as a fan I want to be entertained, see a battle, but a boxer simply wants to win, hopefully without getting hurt too much and especially without sustaining injury that prevents further fighting.

I don't have an answer. The big heavy jab jab clinch works. You are within the rules to clinch an opponent who comes at you in such a way that you can't defend yourself with legal punches, and those rules can't really be changed without putting fighters health at risk. If you take away the right to clinch whats just to stop fighters simply bullrushing since an opponent can't hit them without risking the DQ.

We could end up with boxing matches with fighters simply charging at each other head down seeing who can go lowest. It might sound amusing but is that what you want to see? (The answer you're looking for is NO btwlol.

I have a pet theory that moving the CW / HW margin upto 210lbs might leave us with the rough equivalent of the pre Bowe HW division as CW and a HW division which is essentially a marginalised side-show. The idea of creating a SHW division has been touted, but the last thing boxing needs is more divisions. Maybe, however simply renaming a 210lb cruiser as heavy and Heavy as SHW could help sell the idea.

Remember Henry Akinwande ? He got disqualified for illegal tactics like holding. Wlad does not only hold, he´s leaning onto his opponent, throwing him onto the ground, he´s a disgrace. Unfortunately he´s the darling of the world organizations which alllows him to get a personal referee in his fights.

 

@ Max Power - Yep, but they both had the same inentions, to destroy a fight. And if Wladimir wasn´t alllowed to use those tactics, Povetkin could´ve beaten him. He´s easily the better fighter.

 

He should have been warned from the start of the leaning on , warned again, then had a point deducted, then if he persisted more points ,until he got slung out.Unfortunately there was no referee in there , just a dummy in a bow tie.
I thought it was an absolute disgrace.

 

He is just what I said he was,a limited, predictable plodder.But at least he had intentions of fighting.

I am a huge wlad fan and I was appauled by this fight. He had no ****ing reason to hold.

Jeez.. i hated that fight and I started rooting for Povetkin to KO him and for the REF to take points and DQ Wlad
