    Honestly, I don't know.

It's one of those rules that isn't really enforced (especially if the fighter is a mainstay). It's like Lennox proping up his opponents head with his left and nailing them with the right. There has to be some rule against that. But it wasn't really enforced with him. Or like Andre Ward sticking his arm out to cheat distance.

The refs really need to be more consistent, whatever their stance is.

This, but people probably know me as an Ali "hater" so it is to be expected I would agree with this.

So what is the proper response when your opponent ducks low and uses his head to run into your chest area like a ramrod? Note how Mormeck is not even attempting to throw any punch, unlike Waldo:

I suppose when Archie Moore did it, it was genius and skill etc.

Acting like Klitschko invented holding is just stupid. Should Lewis have been allowed to hold Michael Grant's head down and hit him with an uppercut?

Anybody who has watched boxing for a few years knows 'the jab and grab' has been used by a large amount of boxers.

I'm sure the OP never watched Vladimir Klitschko when he was trained by Sdunek. At that time VK would overhook and collar tie his opponent and then chop him down with left hooks and uppercuts ( Monte Barrett, Derrick Jefferson ), He started the jab and grab when it was decided that Emanuel Steward would turn him into a boring Lennox Lewis clone, which is more or less what he has been reduced to being. I liked watching Klitschko's early fights but now he's all about controlling distance and varying his punch speed to wear down his opponent mentally and physically.

Lewis is a totally different animal to Wlad, he was an all rounder and also a level or two above in ability.

Wladimir doesn't know how to fight on the inside,

so he holds whenever an opponent gets too close.

Sdunek ruined Wlad and turned him into a stand boxer who was easy to hit!!

Wlad fought very well before 1999, this was the Wlad of the amateurs, great footwork great boxing skills. From 1999 - 2003 Wlad was turned into a stand Boxer. The result was the TKO loss against Sanders.

Emanuel Steward helped Wlad since 2004 to overcome this loss and to bring back the "old" Wlad. Today Wlad is much more skilled it is a mix form the amateur Wlad and Lewis-style. Very very hard to beat.
