And not just in 1 place, their home town?

That after all is why Ali has such a global following.

World Champion doesn't mean fight around the world if that's what you're implying, just that you are the champion of the world. Honestly, if you earned a title and are a legitimate champ, you should be able to fight on your turf.

No not necessarily, but they should be expected to fight the best contenders from wherever they happen to be from in the world. That's the definition of a world champion IMO.

No, they should take on the best challengers from around the world, but traveling doesn't matter so much.

If you're champ and you want to make everyone come to you, that's your right and privilege as the one holding the upper hand in bargaining.

World Champion means they're the "best" in the world. I wish boxing had a commission. "Home field advantage" should be what another user posted, the crowd. I also believe that the World Champion should be allowed to fight where they want. NO FIGHTER should be allowed to select the gloves, both fighters should wear the same IMO because different gloves can create an unfair advantage. NO FIGHTER should select a ref or judge.

Not necessarily. Boxing is a business if a fighter makes more money fighting in front of a home crowd then I have no problem with them staying at home.

But if they have the opportunity to make more money overseas there is no reason why they should not fight abroad and to not to despite the financial incentive suggests they are using home advantage to protect and further their career.

If boxing was based on a good concept like most of the sports, then the world champion would travel and defend his title in different countries and continents.

But considering the current situation, the champion has no formal obligation to travel anywhere (unless his promoter is beaten on the purse bids). However, it does improve the champion's legitimacy if he chooses to fight in different countries sometimes (like Klitschko in Russia/USA etc) rather than staying home in the comfort zone 100% of the time. However, if the champ makes way more money on his home turf than he would make elsewhere, it's logical that he isn't too keen to travel.

There are a couple of examples where the champion refuses to travel despite the chance to earn more than he does on the home turf. That doesn't really do well for the champion's reputation, especially if he is known for insisting on the home advantage.

They should be expected to fight wherever they will generate the most money.

True world championship is the olympics and that's pretty much all around the world. Pro boxing is an entertainment business and it doesn't produce world champions, it produces rich entertainment people who fights whoever they please.

Anybody looking for fair need to go back to sleep cause there's nothing fair. Somebody is always gonna call foul. My take is that the champ is the champ and if you want that belt you need to come prepared to take it on his terms because that's the way he got it. As long as his terms are within the rules I see no issue.
