Should they, now that boxing gloves are made to protect the boxers from vicious blows to the head?

The gloves and wraps are meant to protect the hands, not the head. :hang

Yes, the championship rounds are sorely missed.

There are certainly some title fights that go the distance, no one gets knocked down, and both boxers clearly have some gas left in the tank. Those are the kind of fights i'd like to see go 15. But i could see the danger in automatically having 15 scheduled rounds, because no matter how evolved sports medicine and sports training has gotten, none of that is going to prevent the potential damage done by repeated blows to the head.

Maybe title fights could be scheduled for 12 + 3 rounds, and the doctor comes in after 12 and give a yes or no to 3 more rounds? If no, go to the scorecards.

I was just thinking that when I was reviewing some fights from right after they switched to 12 rounds. I can't stand that they say that 10-12 are the championship rounds these days. We never see the championship rounds ever again after they switched to 12 rounds max. 13-15 will always be the true championship rounds for me. How often the commentators used to say something like, "Let's see what they have left for the championship rounds..." and that was so exciting. That whole leadup to the switch when Kim Duk Koo died after his fight with Ray Mancini and then his mother and the referee committing suicide as a result, the whole thing was just so ugly. Aside from all of that drama though, I really wish they never lowered the rounds from 15 to 12. Look at the results of what happened after they switched to 12 rounds, boxers still get severely injured, even within the 12 round limit. It is still a blood sport.

I heard they are making them bigger now so that the punches land softer...but I could be wrong.

This could lead to very controversial decisions in a sport that is already replete with them.

Yes. Of all the changes made to sport this was the worst - totally ill-advised and utterly unnecessary.

    Absolute yes

It might also lead to fewer slobs at HW

I can't ****ing stand watching Devin Haney "fight" for twelve rounds.

And now some of you assholes want to make me watch him for fifteen rounds?

Just tie me to a chair and pull of my fingernails instead...

The general public of 2023 does not have the attention spans for a 45 minute fight plus the 15 1 minute breaks. They barely have the attention span for anything beyond a tiktok video, so they will definitely not be stretching out the fights today.

Of course not - the later rounds when a fighter is tired, slower and more vulnerable, lead to tragedy.
    12 is plenty.

Yes, too easy to abuse that. I'm sure there are some stand up doctors involved in boxing, but I know for a fact that is not always the case.

The A-side fighter has been flagging in the last few rounds but is just ahead on the cards...we all know which way that call is going.
