I see fighters leading with lead left left hooks alot especially if they are infighters, but ive also been told its a really bad idea to lead with a hook. Whats the truth? Also how do you follow the jab with a hook in combination? Do you drop your hand or something?
Try it yourself lol, if you see the opening you take it. Honestly you should stop posting these threads, overcomplicating things for yourself its pointless
Me personally i love the lead left hook and i catch a lot of sparring partners with it and put them down. I throw the shot from the outside by either fainting with the jab or as they step in ill throw it and step back off. Jab and hook is easier, you got to throw it fast, dont concentrate on the power just speed.
A lead left hook is dangerous because, if its anticipated, you can get decapitated by a counter right. You have to jump in to land it, so its quite easy to run into a right. If its behind a jab, or a feint jab, the risk is totally reduced because the opponent can't anticipate it. If its on the inside, it doesn't matter because you're not jumping in with it. When you throw it behind a feint or a jab, you need to bring the elbow back down to the waist and then release the hook. Otherwise, you'll pull the hook back and telegraph it. The other key thing is that you need to get the lead foot in and to the side to get good leverage.
