Has anyone on here ever had pain in the shoulder blade? it is in the right side blade itself and runs down my back. i have been to physio chrio and massage therapist, they make it feel good for a day but it starts feeling bad again.sometimes it feels like my back is broken, and its hard to take deep breaths. everyone has a different opinon about whats wrong. i am now getting pain in my left elbow not sure if it is related.

Sometimes, if the back has been out of alignment for a period of time, muscle imbalances can occur and one side gets really tight and starts spasming.

A chiropractor will re-align the bone straight, but the imbalance in the muscles surrounding that particualr disc pulls the bone out of alignment again and the spasming starts again.

Repeated visits to a chiropractor can slowly correct the problem and a bit of therapeutic back excercises for that area can certainly help speed up the improvement. Ask any therapist for some basic back excercises to help strengthen the spinal column.

One of the easiest is the opposite leg and shoulder raise while lying on your stomach. You lie face down with your arms spread out at 45 degrees and legs slightly apart. Then simultaneously raise one arm and the opposite leg for 10-15 reps. Then you do the other arm and leg. But concentrate on the sqeezing the spinal column muscles though. You'll start feeling where the weakness is.

If it's higher up near the neck, a good excercise is the neck against the wall press.

you stand up with your back against the wall. Then, you try and press the back of your neck up against the wall as hard as you can. This will strengthen the muscles that keep that part of the spine curved backwards.

All too often in this day and age of sitting in front of a computer with the head tilting forward, the curvature in the neck is lost resulting in "soldier's neck" and all kinds of nasty side effects like tight shoulders, pinched nerves, pathetic range of motion, etc...

a pinched nerve can cause that. I'd probably ice down your back, wear the pain is at. Basically when you get a pinched nerve, you also get swelling, which causes more pain. Mine got bad enough that my left arm went numb for about 3 months. Just gotta ice it down so things will get cracked back into place.

I hurt my left shoulder blade a year ago from jiu jitsu. It was my first couple of classes and I was doing the wrong thing in somebody's guard and my arm got pulled too hard when they were going for an armbar. I went to physical therapy for a while because my shoulder blade would really wing out when I'd do exercises and it created shoulder pain also. I had a hard time with pushups but now I can crank them out like I used to. Alot of my shoulder blade exercises consisted of pinching the blades together at the end of the movement. They really helped out. If you have more questions ask. Peace.

Laying on my stomach on a table with my left arm off of the table. I'd hold a weighted ball palm in. With a one or two lbs. ball I'd bring my extended arm forward for one motion, forward/outward angle motion, backwards motion. The next would be a row motion with my arm stopping at a 90 degree angle, I'd use a 5 lbs ball for this. For each movement I'd hold the end motion for 5 seconds while pinching the blades together at the end of the movement. I'd do 2 sets of 10 reps for each motion. These are the ones that helped me the most and I still do them at home. Also hold resistance tubing at both ends in front of your chest while standing and pull the tubing apart while also pinching your blades together. If you want more exercises with the resistance tubing just let me know. It takes a while to get better so don't expect any over night results. I thought my shoulder was screwed but now i'm able to smash the heavy bag with a left hook. Anybody with pain should try physical therapy. Peace.
