    Hey guys,
I work out around 4 days a week, but two days ago trained shoulders for first time in about three weeks. I thought my strength might have dropped, but while doing my workout, found that things were fine.

That night (about six hours after the workout) I started getting a pain around my trap, rear delt and spreading down into my ribs. It hurts to take a breath, but I can stil more or less move as normal. Does this sound like a muscle sprain of some sort? Why would the shoulder sprain spread down to the rib area? This is all on the right side of my body.
I'm just icing the sore areas and taking painkillers (not ibuprofen as it gives me a bad gut ache so just using codeine)

What did you strain your shoulders doing? Knowing the motion that caused the injury may help to narrow it down.

What your describing sounds somewhat familiar to me but the pain was more localized in the shoulder, as I pulled a tendon or some such. Basically had to take time off and let it heal, then slowly rebuild back up to where I was at.

sounds abit serious. I'd definitely have it looked at by a physio or doc who can diagnose it. A doctor might just say to rest for so many weeks but you can investigate online once you have the diagnosis and see how you can work around it and aid recovery.

When I think about it, I really pushed myself on heavier side raises than usual, and felt a great burn while doing these. Maybe I went a little too far and have caused a strain. It has eased a little bit these last two days, but still hurts to take a breath, which I'm told by a friend who is a physio, is a sign of muscle strain. I'll give it a few more days of rest and painkillers and see how it goes.

this can happen when you lift heavy without a warm up
i would warm up with lighter weight then go into your heavy sets
