Any tips on recovering and preventing shoulder injuries? Main concern is sleeping on my left side and I end up with a stiff neck that over the course of 24hrs creeps down and around my left shoulder blades. Its happened twice now in the space of a couple of months and tends to have me out of training for at least a week. Physio is working on it and he seems to have isolated the latest problem to around the base of the shoulder blade, near the spine and around near the lats (knots throughout). Its no coincidence that I landed on my left arm earlier in the year (playing football) and I would suspect that these recent injuries are related to the ligament/soft tissue damage I did then. Very frustrating as I was getting good momentum with my training.
I cant advise you as such just dont risk it , rest it and recover it! I injured by shoulder about a year ago and it was never right again not been able to box since! All because i kept pushing it!
over ice it the injury. after the swelling has stopped try working the muscles out real light with exercise rubber bands. as the previous poster said... don't push it.
If the Hips are not alined, theres a problem all over the body especially with the oral cavity the Head. Stabalising it the Head, puts pressure on the muscles that support it usually the 4 and 5th upper vertabrea and that area which transmit to the arms and shoulders. Muscles in the area tense to compensate, stretching the area should remedy the problem
Interestingly, its brought about by eyesight. One being more shortsighted than the other, the less dominant eye. causes different gait on hip movement. Thats why its important to stretch. Lots of Pro Footballers have the problem.
i've injured by shoulder and back in the past, currently injured my wrist. besides the norm like icing etc ... make sure you rest it sufficiently, don't resume training unless its healed 100% ... I know its real frustrating and u feel helpless wanting to train but u cant. but i made that mistake and resumed training when i was about 80-90% recovered and it bought me back to square one.
The physio thinks it might be posture related brought on by the increased activity through boxing and the injury early in the year. A habit of sleeping on the left side and also working at a desk is causing the muscles to tighten. He strapped it back and coupled with massage it has improved more in the last 24hrs than it had in the last week. Fingers crossed I'm on track for recovery!
