I'm not sure what that has to do with anything. I must say that before I started using boxing forums with members from the US and beyond I would never hear the phrases ATG and HOF mentioned. It's just not something I hear talked about in the UK at all. Yet is seems very important to US posters.

 

The quote isn't about 'elite' fighters though, is it. Whether they're ATG material or not is irrelevant. The point is 'show me a man who fights for a living and i'll show you a kid with an unhappy childhood' - it's about what drives someone to make their living in such a brutal way, not if you have to of had an unhappy childhood to become a top class fighter

im sure floyd had happy childhood. when sr and uncles taking drugs, he took it too in small amounts and was always on laughing trip thus making him happy everyday.smh:smh:smh:smh:smh

 

It is like a porn actress. Not all but many if not most had some tragic childhood, often living in broken and/or poor household.

I'm sorry if I didn't make it clear but I wasn't saying what you are insinuating at all. I never said that being raised middle class meant you had a happy childhood at any point.

The reason I said it reminded me of that thread is because, as mentioned at the end of my post it is just another generalization. The other reason is that it seemed to be another thread trying to link the choice to box with with negative aspects of a persons past.

Now as for the "how do you know these people were actually happy in their childhood?". As I mentioned most of the fighters were people I knew personally and grew up with. Of-course no one can ever know exactly what someone has gone through but like to think I know my friends and their families well. As for the other "well known" names I mentioned I said "from my knowledge" and never once stated it as fact.

In fact from your response, I'm not sure you read my post properly at all.

 

How do you know if they are really sad, then? Even if they claim to have been? It's all just speculative and way too broad of a quote.

 

I was going to go into that as well but decided it wasn't worth my time. Just because they say they had a tough childhood we should believe them? etc...

 

not quite accurate....some are born rich like barrera....some are born poor like morales....

its not a guarantee that every boxer has a sad childhood.....just like in life in general, some poor families out there are more happy than the rich ones.....

 

but its fair to claim that 9 out of 10 boxers come from a background thats considered poor circumstances.
