Once he was a freak show fighting for only 2.000 $ - now he is a former HW belt holder and top contender fighting for the interim title of the oldest boxing organization again. Give the man his due credit!
He nearly cracked Marcianos record. He has beaten a lot of good punchers, agile boxers, undefeated men, and former olympians.
He has incredible stamina and fitness, chin, always comes to bring a good clean fight.
He is a humble guy besides the ring, a family man.
The best thing: He is constantly improving!

    Rafael Marquez

Recovered well from debut loss (v ex-World champ Victor Rabinales: what were Marquez' people thinking:patsch ) to emerge as a fan friendly explosive banger in the lower weight classes. Due to his style picked up a couple of more losses through the years, but still had enough in the tank to pull of the upset against long-reigning champ Tim Austin in a tremendous battle (sometimes overlooked when people talk about some of the great fights of the modern era). Refined his style dramatically, turning into a great little boxer-puncher, and reeled off a good few impressive defences of his bantam title ( 2 wins against Mabuza were very good), before moving up to super-bantam and the incredible trilogy with champ Israel Vasquez. A very solid and game fighter, who still might have more big fights ahead of him. A real pleasure to watch in the ring.
