I never pay attention to how much they make or the business side of boxing, just hear all these numbers thrown around that don't make any sense. I wouldn't even believe 40 million after everything including ppv

yeah I feel you on that. I'm an accounting major, so this type of stuff intrigues me :yep but to a normal person, it's just a bunch of random numbers

There are multiple streams of revenue. Site fee, promotional tie ins, etc. I would love to see a complete balance sheet on a big event like this some day.

I'm sure Mayweather's purse is the summation of what he will receive and he pays his expenses out of that. Training, promotions, etc. Whatever gets him a little less screwed by the tax man.

These guys are good at market research. Losing a little something on the first go round is typical in business. I'd be shocked if it happens here.

Well you have to keep in mind that they are still trying to recoup 12 Million dollars that they lost in the Floyd/Guerrero fight, so they're in the hole already, if this Floyd/Canelo fight under performs in PPV sales then don't be surprised to see Showtime make some major changes again, which can only conclude with GBP heading back to HBO.

Obviously only the people who know the finer details in the contracts know why these numbers make sense, but it just seems to be flirting with profit margins by paying Floyd that much.

Yeah I think personally Floyd should have gotten a 32 million dollar guarantee, but higher amount of the ppv.

That way, there's less risk of not covering the fixed costs. The only problem for Showtime is if the ppv over performs by a lot, they'll see less of the money because Floyd will be getting it, but there's less risk involved.

    Agreed.

Hopefully it works out though, would be nice to see this event be as huge as is being perceived

with the economy as it is at this point, I don't expect this fight to do any better than Mayweather vs. Cotto....

Cotto a proven PPV performer, and there was a lot of hype for that fight as well, also on HBO.

This fight, will do 1.5 mil or less and that is pretty good considering the economy.

i'd say break even point is 1.5 to 1.7 mil as a poster said. i dont think they mind losing a little money here considering they are thinking this as a loss leader.

Is the economy worse now than it was when Floyd fought Cotto?
