This content is protected Who will be PBC's new broadcaster? A lot of people felt that DAZN would leave boxing before Showtime, but they have all been proven wrong.
This could be an inflection point for ESPN. I doubt their TR contract prohibits them from signing another promoter/manager, and if they want they can command a stranglehold on American boxing for relatively cheap. The issue is whether Disney views boxing as a net asset or a net liability. ESPN+ already is filled with college football & basketball games across its channels, so there simply may be no room. I'd love for there to be a reemergence of actually good Friday night fights, but that's a pipe dream. If you're PBC, what do you do? If ESPN isn't interested, it's tough to imagine PBC on DAZN. And Fite TV doesn't have the resources.
Al should dip deep into pockets and try and poach some of OG Bob's fighters so he can drastically increase the talent level of his stable and get back to winning ways.
IF...they went to ESPN, there'd better be a clause saying they MUST fight Top Rank fighters as deemed necessary.
I don't know the answer yet, but that would be a terrible move. Disney and ESPN are so PC they would kill the competitiveness and trash talking in boxing.
DAZN has Matchroom. DAZN has Golden Boy. If DAZN got the PBC, it would really make things interesting in terms of potential matchups. Would probably help all three promotional outfits.
I don't really like a lot of DAZN's production, (I hate Mannix and I hate Todd Grisham, don't really like Diamante either) but all boxing being on one network would be the best thing for the fans, and it looks like DAZN is the place willing to invest and prioritize boxing the most right now. More so than ESPN. So I am hoping DAZN is who PBC sign with.
I don't really like Mora either but he's not as horrible as Grisham and Mannix. I think Andre Ward or Shawn Porter are better options for his position
The timing of DAZN getting rolling coincided perfectly with HBO’s entire production crew being available for hire. Even if they didn’t take the entire announce crew, fights on HBO just looked and felt special. Dazn feels sometimes like someone is streaming it from their Nokia phone.
Brilliantly stated. I love the concept behind DAZN, but their production values certainly come across as subpar at best. (And I'm primarily focusing on presentation and technical prowess more than commentating, although I suppose some of those aspects overlap).
And I'll just add, in my humble opinion, HBO still remains the Gold Standard in boxing presentations. That's inexplicable! In the short 5 years HBO has been away from boxing, technological advancements have been staggering in video/audio.
