What did you guys think of Carlos Velasquez and Erislandy Lara? I think it was there national t.v. debut. I was impressed with both of them. I really like Carlos Velasquez. I think this young kid is going to be great one day. He has power, tenacity, and the physical built to do it. He reminds me of Hector "Macho" Camacho. They both come from the same country of Puerto Rico, but they also look alike. Well, it's a small country (but big on heart). I also was impressed with Erislandy Lara. This guy has over 300+ amateur fights under his belt, and fights like a seasoned pro despite this only being his 11th. fight and win. He is a fast, slick, clever, and overall a good boxer and counterpuncher. Antonio Tarver, the commentator, was hoping for Lara to knockout his opponent in order to impress the national t.v. audience, but it didn't came, and personally I didn't care. I appreciated his boxing skills which is something not seen much in today's power game at least at the level that Lara displays it. I think Lara will be a champion one day, and this is something that the Showtime cast kept reiterating, but although his long amateur experience will help him, it also has ingrained in him a style more suited for it, namely, a style towards scoring points as oppose to a style that produces knock-downs or knock-outs, or the very least hurt their opponents by throwing vicious body punches, and just more power in general. A great night of fighting.

I guess no one saw this post late last night. I'll bring it back up. I think this Carlos Velasquez boxer is for real. I can't find any youtube videos on him, except on his twin brother, Juan Carlos Velasquez. Lara looked great too, and is poised to get an early championship fight in his career. I guess they're letting him fight early for a championship despite only having banked 11 fights, because he's 27 years old. He turned pro late, because he defected from Cuba, and moved around the world.

I was very impressed with Velasquez. Him and Juanma will be vying for the top spot in Puerto Rico boxing, and they also happen to be around the same weight division.
