His power is average.

 

Nah, you can fault his work rate and aggression or maybe another facet or two of his game, but there's nothing wrong with the power of Lara's punches. "Average" power doesn't knock out and hurt people the way we've seen Lara routinely do.

I agree that he's terribly one-dimensional (the 'master boxer' tag is woefully misapplied in the case of this guy), but that wouldn't make him unwatchable for me if not for the ridiculous extents of his contrariness and reluctance to engage. I'd also add that I think he has some pretty good pop that is rather stymied by his obscenely negative approach.

In light of his seemingly unchangeable inclinations, the matchmaking has added to the viewer's woes. It was proven that he was not 'the best' years ago now, so what exactly has he been given screentime for if not to entertain us? We've needed Lara in with guys who can force him to bite down on his gumshield and fight.

 

Routinely hurt? Routinely KO'd? Outside of stopping Angulo, he's stopped all bums.

Agreed. Guys like him and Rigondeaux, you have to put them in with dogs, that will come after them, and make them fight, otherwise they will just sit back and patiently sharp shoot.

Come on man, Hurd was taking punishment from Harris, but worked through it. Lara isn't close to the puncher that Harris is. What is Lara going to show me tonight, outside of some quality boxing, he damn sure isn't going to show me KO power. I'm not a big Hurd guy, I just don't find Lara's style, paired with his lack of aggression, and limited arsenal very pleasing.
