Awww don’t be silly no one is saying having more bruises is an indicator of who won. My last comment had more to do with a poster stating Hurd “only” landed on the gloves, shoulders and arms.

Hurds aggression was quite effective and Lara wasn’t exactly painting him with counters at every possible opportunity because Hurd was slipping in a massive left to the body that was clearly sapping his energy. Overall these two put in a fine show, much respect.

Just got to watching the two world title fights.

I had it 114-113 DeGale in the first one, which I have to say was an awful fight, and didn't change my opinion on DeGale being best off retiring.

I got 115-112 Hurd in the second one, didn't think he needed the knock down to win as commentary and the cards suggested.

Good fight though, between two real good/tough fighters

Morretti giving round 8 to Lara is strange

We actually see this pretty often in the waning years of the careers of great talents hung with the "runner" label.

Iván Calderón, in pretty much his entire run at the end from 2007 until 2012 (encompassing Cazares I & II, Mayol I & II, Segura I & II) became increasingly more flat-footed and would be found in uncharacteristic trench warfare slugging it out with bigger stronger men on a regular basis, and consequently lost more rounds (and incurred a few losses at the very end) and bumped up his standing with the casuals, who began to admit, however begrudgingly, "yeah this old version of Iron Boy is actually pretty exciting and kind of a warrior".

Same with Cory Spinks. He went from the archetype of the negative stick-and-move boxer getting by and winning titles on nothing but a jab and quick feet, to suddenly engaging in pier six brawls - funnily enough, starting around the same time as Calderón (was actually walking down middleweight champion Jermain Taylor at times in his failed bid at moving up in weight to challenge him - firing twice as many punches and only losing via SD, earning many nods of respect) and from Taylor on he was actually in some REALLY good fights including Verno Phillips where he got robbed and both fights with K9 Bundrage, to whom Spinks would have NEVER in a million years lost if he still had the quick legs.

You could argue that Mayweather stood and traded a lot with McGregor, and Berto, and Maidana...even as far back as Cotto.

At some point these guys, no matter what they've accomplished or how secure their legacy, decide they're sick of having this "runner" stigma and figure "the hell with it, let me show these punks that I'm willing to stand my ground here, in my twilight, with nothing left to lose really since I couldn't run anymore even had I wanted to..."

So how bad does the forum consider this decision to be? I know CST is leading a band of true believers and uh, non-sheeple truth sayers that say Lara clearly won the fight... What's the actual story here? I tuned out after the Truax fight.

Lara was up on my card after eleven, albeit slightly, and even if his lost the last frame (in a straightforward, 10-9 manner) I was all set to start crowing that although my card was a draw, this was best case scenario for Hurd as the closest rounds on my card were for him. Then he scored that goddamn knockdown.

I'm hearing that Lara did a lot of damaging sharp shooting throughout the fight that busted up Hurd's face pretty badly... that wasn't enough to net him 7 rounds? Hurd stole a few before the last four?

I had the first three for Lara, 4 & 5 to Hurd (the latter close), 6th to Lara (also close), 7th to Lara clear, 8th to Hurd clear, 9th & 10th both very close to Hurd, 11th clear to Lara, and twelfth was a 10-8 but even without that Lara was gassed and getting beaten up after his very strong last-gasp showing in the eleventh.

Gotcha. So you're not on the same boat as some others screaming "Robbery" and or "Bull****"? Legit, close fight?

If anybody wanted the moral victory of saying that Lara got robbed, it' be me, but...eh.

The official scores, 114-113 on either side, are true north for this one, I think.
