    Tony may well have been rated #1 in The Ring (I assume he was, but I don't remember for sure), but lightweight, besides not being a particularly strong division, was still pretty open back then. There was no clearly defined the man at the weight. The so-called Ricky Burns was considered a real factor.

    Wasnt Burns a junior lightweight though at the time?
    Part of Broner’s come uppance was related to Burns avoiding him at 130.

    Nah, Ricky moved up before Broner. Won an interim WBO 135 belt back end of 2011, as I recall, then the full thing in early 2012 (JMM moved up). The Broner-Burns tensions did go back to 130, though.

    No doubt. But very few fighters can claim to have knocked out the number 1 lw in the world.
