In hindsight this was the most unsatisfying heavyweight title fight of all time for me personally; two guys I don't like and I didn't even have the satisfaction and definitive closure of either one sustaining a loss.

 

The funniest thing about that catchphrase having caught on is that I'm fairly certain none of those knuckle-draggers, including Wilder himself, realize that in real life a "bomb squad" is the law enforcement unit responsible for diffusing explosives. I bet all their minds would be totally blown to learn that.

Bomb squads don't blow things up. If your nickname is "the ___ Bomber", then a bomb squad is by definition your antithesis.

I'm not one to call robbery very much but this was a robbery. 9-3 Fury and even the rounds he was knocked down in he came back and did good.

Very close and tactical bout. Both guys displayed good technical abilities, Barriga was on the back foot, trying to lure Licona into counters and to Licona's credit he fought from the outside very well, and timed his straight right consistently well throughout the fight.

What a year for Licona. He went from an unknown fighter to beating one of the best filipino prospects in Barriga and capturing a world title!

On a side note. How often is there for a world title bout to be a walkout fight?

One of the few positives to come out of the debacle is Fat Dan was showed up for the Fat Joke anyone who follows boxing with more than a slight passing interest already knew him to be.
