This really doesnt help Ortiz.

 

Kauffman is much more clever than I thought! It is obvious he knows time is running out for Ortiz given his advanced age and is using delaying tactics until the reaper arrives.

 

The only justification here is that it was all just a "work" as they say in pro wrestling, and Kauffman's job is to play the heel and milk the negative heat for several rounds until making the crowd pop big for Ortiz when he scores the "brutal knockout" they've choreographed beforehand...thus boosting his stock going forward. That is the only explanation that makes sense for this performance; otherwise Kauffman is literally cashing out and can't be planning to ever be given a televised gig again.
