It's funny reading this thread of people thinking CM was doing really good.. when it was just Floyd toying with him. He hardly landed in the rounds that people act like CM boxed Floyd's ears off.

Floyd fought completely unlike Floyd. He didn't have to use almost any of his tricks to win this.. and he knew it. He was outweighed, outsized, out youthed... it was a 12 round fight.. no reason not to use a few rounds to let CM tire out.

 

Floyd toyed with him, seriously. In the early rounds when McGregor was popping off his guard was down.....Floyd could have countered him and ended this in the 2nd or 3rd round.

He outboxed and outworked him over three, but even then, Mayweather was starting to take the wind out of his sails with the straight right to the body, while making sure that he didn't get tagged with anything more than the occasional jab or two.

McGregor deserves credit for doing a pretty decent Vitali impression, and that's a tough style to look good against, even when you win. On the whole, Mayweather handled it about as well as you'd expect a 40 year old to do, given that he was coming off a two year layoff and clearly expecting something a little different going into the contest.

 

Landing the occasional upjab and period counter against Floyd over the first three or four isn't exactly schooling someone, especially when that someone clearly seems intent upon using the rounds to take a look and work out his foe. Conor won the first three, and maybe had a case for the 7th, but from about the second round on you could see Floyd dropping the straight right in to the gut in order to find the range and make certain he gassed this time around, too. Even if he wasn't hurting him downstairs, they definitely allowed him to set up the shots upstairs that landed in the later rounds.

 

Didn't even crack the top 20.
