Mr P, how highly do you rate Davis? How would you say he gets on against Loma? Haney? Garcia? And Teo?


I don't want to argue about any predictions or claims, I'm genuinely interested how highly you rate him and how good you think he is and will be.

And that also doesn't mean if he gets beat at some point I return to this question and say something sarcastic, get me? I have been high on fighters that ended up bang average LOL I'm genuinely interested in your opinion on Davis.

Also, what does he need to improve on? Anything in particular or does he just need to fight regular and gain experience?

 

The thing is, loma looked like he got the **** kicked out of him after the pedraza fight. And yet his "loses" to salido and lopez, didn't have a scratch on his face. And then you look at teos face after the fight, hes all swollen and beat up, and he was almost K.O'd in rd 11. And yet, the decision.........

Davis IMO has not evolved that much as a boxer he still relies too much on his power for my liking and his defense is trash. His style is hard to figure out is he a boxer puncher or a slugger with speed or a counter puncher??? I think he has a puncher's chance against all of the fighters you mentioned but could very easily get completely outboxed by all of them as well because all of them are better pure boxers than him which is why 135 is arguably the best and most exciting division in boxing. I just hope we get to see these match up but with all the boxing politics who knows?

 

Got to give props to Davis showing class after the fight and calling LSC's dad the real champ tonight. I want to see him do well. He grew up in some bad circumstances. He may not be the most educated or articulate guy, but I believe he wants to do right. Hope he doesn't self destruct.

Yeah it's weird Loma usually cuts up but against Lopez didn't look like that.

 

I grew up with guys like Davis good guys in the hood just dealt a bad hand and want to make it out and do better. It's not easy to make it out so many bad influences snakes and lack of opportunity.

 

I agree with the comment about his style, he looked rather good tonight when he stopped pushing forward and was a little more measured and counter punched, in the 4th round there was a change and it worked really well.

But then he pushes forward, has a fight, gets caught but lands a peach of an uppercut.. so I know what you mean, maybe it will just have to change depending on the opponent.

Yeah agree again, I hope these fights happen, these men could and should make a ton of money for those fights, hopefully crowds can be back soon and they will want to make big fights and pocket the cash while they can.

I'd also give him a punchers chance against all of them, but like you I could see him struggling to outbox them and his defence at times tonight was awful.. let's hope they happen and we will find out.

 

I think this is where Davis is at as well. He's a raw natural talent, has decent skills, but still fights more like a guy new to boxing; waiting and loading up for that KO punch. I think he is coming along nice though. I thought the body punches were superb, but then again it was against a pretty stationary opponent. I do think his biggest weakness is that he doesn't have a commanding jab, which will then get him out boxed easily with someone who does have a good jab and better upper body movement. Not sure where his limit is yet, but considering his age he has room to improve.

The lack of a jab though. That's what I've noticed the past couple fights, LSC, Loma, Povetkin, Whyte; it's like dude, where is your jab?

 

He has short arms but you can still jab even with short arms. You're right about his body punching it was on point tonight will be interesting if he will start to use it even more down the road.

 

Why did IB get banned?
