No, shitty promoters is what's killing boxing. Do you regularly attend live fights? If not, you have no room to talk. Boxing fans pay good $$ to see GOOD fights.
Andre Ward made a substantial amount of money fighting on Showtime. He is the "1" Super Middleweight Champion. He thought he had all the leverage in the world with that stature alone, but he forgot one thing. He can't sell tickets. His counterpart, Lucian Bute not rated as the "1" guy in his division, consistently packs the house. Now Ward has been sitting on the shelf, while Bute is about to fight Froch. Rumor is that Ward will take on Gabriel Campillo now.
Good decision by Showtime. While I would like to see the 168 Champ and the 175 Champ fight, it would cost a lot of money to get both fighters and that can be better spent on cheaper and much more fan-friendly matches.
no problem with this this two have actual interesting fights in their division they should be fighting that are better then them having a faintoff for 12 rounds.ward/bute and dawson/pascal are better fights
I'm a big Ward fan and prefer to see him face Bute. Showtime is a business and realizes Ward vs. Bute makes more financial sense. I get it. As a boxing purist would I like to see Ward vs. Dawson? Sure. But outside of a few hardcore fans of those two, nobody else would. It will be an even bigger fight after Ward beats Bute. Let them do it then.
Why??? :? WTF. I wouldn't say Stephen Espinoza is doing a great job at all, if he's rejecting superfights like this. Snoozer schmoozer. If you wouldn't watch this, boxing isn't for you. Check out MMA.
Everybody knew Hopkins vs. Dawson I AND II were going to be even bigger snoozers than this would be. People bought I as PPV. People tuned into II on regular HBO in droves. So...yeah, so ****ing what if it wasn't going to be a war? What's your point? Anyone who follows SMW and LHW should want to see who comes out on top between these two.
You know it would be a do-able fight is they fought in Oakland and Chad Dawson's promoter actually promoted him all these years after being showcased on HBO and Showtime numerous times. Too bad we don't live in a perfect world.
for fans that appreciate the technical side of boxing this would be amazing (*******s don't watch, it will bore you)
