Showtime Send Legal Letters Warning Dirrell and Ward

    Just over at the scene

    Basically Showtime have warned both that they must go through with there fight. They were given 3 dates of September 25, October 2 or October 9. Barring a Miracle the fight will not take place on any of dates.

    During the last few weeks, there have been industry rumors that Ward and Dirrell, who are close friends, were looking for ways to avoid their scheduled fight.

    Gary Shaw Said ''"breach of contract" if the fight didn't happen on one of the three date provided. And although Dirrell was quoted as saying that his fight with Ward "is being postponed," Shaw is not aware of any official postponement. Shaw disclosed that there is no finalized deal with Ward's promoter, Goossen, and no venue has been secured.

    i made a thread about fighters not being prepared to fight there friends a few months ago and most on here were sympathetic to the fighters.

    i think there being a disgrace. If they do not fight they have to retire, end of story. It sounds like Ward has been training but not Dirrell.

    no this is actually what happens if you pull out of the tournament without showtimes approval.

    I mentioned them being such close buddies maybe effecting the fight a while back and was laughed at.

    Why the heck would you sign up for the tourney if you ain't gonna fight eachother? :twisted:

    Seriously though, this is BS. Its their profession and they knew this was going to happen. they should have been prepared for it.

    im pretty sure it is...but it comes down to money...basically they could fight again but they wouldnt make any money at all, showtime has worked it as such...i believe. protecting their own investment, fair enough. don king has done similar in the past I believe

    I thought this was brewing for a while no venue decided either, why did they sign into the tournament if they knew they would be fighting each other? It was never if they meet it was when they meet so there really is no excuse.

    Ward was giving it all the bollocks in the fight camp 360 about putting friendship aside. I will lose respect for him if he tries bull**** moves like this. Dirrell....well there's not a lot of respect for him anyways.

    Over the years some of greatest fights have been between friends.

    Are they even that close???.......i mean there not like always round each others gaffs are they? or are they?????!!!!!

    You couldn't get any closer than Simon Brown and Maurice Blocker and they damn near tore eachother's heads off.

    Nah, they were on the same amateur circuit and teams at different weights. Not exactly Wlad vs. Vit.

    Christ, Froch and Kessler fought and they are gay boosom buddies are they not?

    If the two A's don't wanna fight then chuck them out. There's no room for this kind of pathetic bull**** in boxing or in any sport. You wanna be ****buddies Andre's? Do it on your own time. For crying out loud.

    It is a tough one, as mentioned Brown and Blocker fought each other, ditto Barrera and Tapia, but Norton and Smokin' Joe decided not to, and no one held that against them...
