Based on their virtually all seasoned heavyweights who are massive men with fight changing power. Contrary to what many fans think the difference between 205 and heavy in MMA is immense. The current crop of heavys are massive men. Jones looses almost every physical advantage he has down at 205. How is he going to cope when a guy taller than him like Reem closes the distance and gets inside his jab? Hows he going to react when a guy like Cain grapple ****s him against the cage and gets in his guard on the mat? Hows he going to react when he eats a canned ham from Silva JDS or Carwin? Hows he going to react when his strikes don't deter a guy like Cormier and are returned with even stronger punches that his never tasted before? Hows he going to react when he has a 300lb Silva-back on top of him for a few rounds?
He was gonna get stopped based on what? Machida starched him, yes, but that could have more to do with Lyoto's awkward Karate style than anything else. Jones' striking is a bit overrated when he's on his feet. Scoring a takedown on Evans isn't easy. I think Evans' long history of sparring experience with Bones was a key factor in allowing Rashad to go the distance. Rashad's only real chance at winning, IMO, was knocking out Bones. Unfortunately Bones' chin never crumbled.
Its a word that gets used alot but i agree. Rogan was guffawing all over his striking claiming Jones looked like he came from a striking discipline. That was total clap trap. Jones benefits greatly in that he is actually a southpaw who fights orthodox. Hence the quick elbow strikes. Either way his striking is certainly not of professional calibre much less K-1. His reach allows him to do alot.
Agree that JBJ should stay at lt hvy and continue to have his reign there. Love forward to him vs Hendo.
I was rooting for Evans but during round 2 i realized it was over Evans either was too afraid of being countered or just had no idea how to attack Jones now I'll admit Jones didnt dazzle but he didnt have to, Evans didnt press the issue at all early on i was happy that Evans seemed to slow Jones down and not get overwhelmed something i was worried about but as it went on it was obvious Evans was gonna lose he hardly through despite landing several pretty clean rights one of which seemed to keep Jones off temporarily i really dont get why Evans never shot, Jones is a big tall up right guy, his legs just seemed open for the taking Evans made the distance but i wasnt impressed
