Fast-tracking light heavyweight Beibut Shumenov (8-0, 6 KOs), fresh off of his impressive fourth-round stoppage of former two-time world champion Byron Mitchell last Saturday night in Kazakhstan, has set his sights on a major world title fight against WBO champion Zsolt Erdei or WBA title-holder Hugo Garay. A 2004 Olympian, Shumenov is rated #8 by the WBA, #9 by the WBO and #16 by the WBC and in his last three fights has defeated two former world champions, Mitchell and Montell Griffin, in addition to world title challenger Epifanio Mendoza. It was great fighting at home and I want to thank Byron Mitchell for replacing (Alejandro) Berrio on such late notice, an ambitious Beibut said. He still has the heart of a champion and it showed in the ring. I grateful for winning the IBA World title and now Im ready for more challenges. I really want to fight Erdei or Garay and Im hopeful that one of them steps-up to give me an opportunity to fight for their world title crown.
Who the hell is Erdei? I have heard of Garay, but Erdei, seems like his undefeated record consists of cupcake fights. His promo company must be protecting him or is either avoiding the best in the division.
lineal light heavywieght champion of the world and still defending....and he ****ing knows it. beat gonzalez and fights as you say cupcakes. there is even an interveiw where he clearly states he wants to retire undefeated and remain lineal lhw champ of da world. and it's clear that he and his managment are making damn sure that happens. This content is protected long live the Erdeinator anyways shumanov form the 3 mins of footage of him seems to really know how to bully tactically and i think would depose and expose erdei form his destopian reign
Funny you'd have only heard of one and not the other, since Garay has had two disputed decisions go against him vs Erdei and he's the best fighter Erdei's defended against. To answer the other bit, you're right- he's been racking up easy defenses, which is why it'd be best for boxing if Shumenov could beat Erdei- it'd be safe to say Shumenov would seek out quality fighters to defend against. Despite basically holding the belt hostage, Erdei had some pretty good skills. I have no idea how much he has left of them since he hasn't had to really stay sharp to still win, though.
he actually is. i wouldnt be surprised if more than half of esb think he wins....a guy that has minimal footage clearly beats him. proof of erdais aura of uninvincability.
Don't know much about this guy but I'm already pulling for him. I love it when fighters don't waste time fighting club-fighters who can teach them absolutely nothing. When you have extensive amateur experience you should be moved pretty quickly - and this boy seems like he's in a hurry. If he can take the belt from that disgrace Erdei, he'll become my new favourite fighter.
So whats the deal with Erdei is he like another Ottke? Despite Ottke getting a few gifts in his career atleast he had the balls to fight some threatening fights.
