I am a HUGE Calzaghe fan, but recently he has really lost alot of respect from me.

After the Hopkins fight, Joe was saying how tough a fight it was (saying it was his toughest fight)...saying how great a fighter Bernard is...admitting he was hurt early, but he clearly won a CLOSE fight...also saying that the "white boy" comment was just done to hype the fight, nothing more.

After Bernard beat Pavlik and Joe beat Roy...they ask him about a possible rematch and now its he "kicked Bernard's ass"...Bernard tried to cheat to win...and Bernard is a racist.

Then he complains about the lack of young stars getting exposure and this is AFTER he turns a fight down with the best young fighter in and around his division (Dawson).

    Its getting ridiculous...

So which of these statements are incorrect then?

    - Too much politics in boxing?
    - Too many alphabet belts, belt holders
    - US didn't do great in the boxing at the Olympics
    - UFC taking numbers off boxing, particularly the younger new potential fans
    - De la Hoya was a great fighter, but he is past his best and is only fighting part time now

I disagree when he says boxing is dying. We certainly don't have the stars of the 80's, the Leonard's, Hearns, Hagler, Duran, Tyson etc, and like any sport, you need the superstars and personalities. PBF could have seriously helped boxing out in this respect, but he is so completely unlikeable for the average fan, and his style is only attractive to the purist, and won't draw in the extra armchair viewers that boxing needs for ppv etc.

Whilst i prefer Calzaghe when he's got a gumshield in, I don't think you can argue with a lot of what he said, if you maintain a level of objectivity

It's not the statements, it's the guy making them.

Considering Joe defended the trinket WBO belt at home for years and years, him complaining about 'too many alphabet belts' is unintentionally hilarious. It seems like "do as I say, not as I do."

Hopkins is right. And more polite about it than I expected him to be, too.

I dont agree that Boxing is dying, but Calzaghe is right about DLH being a part time fighter over the last 5 years.

Also Borenard whilst being a modern great cannot call anyone boring, except for the Pavlik fight when he rendered Pavlik helpless so he could bring the bullying antics out because he wasnt being hit back, he has been an insomniacs dream over the last 5 years.

You got that one right! Hopkins should go home, lock the doors and stay there from here to eternity. There are too many ******ed ex-stars in boxing, and we don't need one more.

Joe has never said it was his toughest fight. At the post-fight press conference he said (what he has said many times) that Kessler is the best fighter he has ever met.

True, Joe said some diplomatic things just after the fight - nothing really positive, he just wasnt slagging Bernard so much. However, after hearing that Hopkins didn;t even recognize that Joe won the fight, Joe was obviously pissed and called Hopkins delusional. I think Hopkins is delusional if he thinks he won, and I think it is fully understandable that Joe loses respect for Hopkins when he learns how bad a loser he really is.

Hopkins is a tit. How many fans can HE attract in America let alone out of it? Joe`s had crowds of 30,000+ and 50,000+,when has Hopkins got near those figures?
