Tiger woods is probably deserving of number 1, the mental toughness he has displayed on many occasions is great. This is not about which sport is tougher but how the athlete performs under stressful conditions. Sure golf is nowhere near as physical as football, mma, boxing, hockey ect. but thats not the point of the list and thats what makes Tiger unique he is wins under extreme stress in front of millions who watch his every move and he does it whether he is sick or just suffered the loss of his father... British open a few years back when he won he could finally release his emotions...imagine holding that in for 4 rounds in front of all those people. I am a bigger fan of MMA and boxing but if I wanted to be one athlete in the world it would be Tiger woods he is incomparable always wins or is at the top of the leader board and always has the other players wondering or looking over their shoulders. This is what the list represents the mentality to perform at your best consistently no matter what the situation is.

what about that french guy free climber who climbs the worlds tallest buildings. One slip and he dies. In terms of physical toughness and athleticness i think free climbing is up there and as well as risking death he risks being locked up. Probably have to be quite tough mentally (or just mental) when risking your life and reprisals from authorities. Not sure freeclimbing a sport but the guy is definitely an athlete and tough.
