10-12 years ago Liakhovich was a promising HW prospect, who had impressively beaten other prospects like then undefeated Friday Ahunanya and Dominick Guinn (25-1) in exciting fights. Then he got a title fight against highly regarded Lamon Brewster, who held WBO title and 4 wins over Wladimir Klitschko, Kali Meehan, Luan Krasniqi and Andrjej Golota.

In a great fight Liakhovich beat Brewster and won the belt.

Since that, things went wrong. He was outboxing Briggs in the 1st defence till the last minute of 12th round, and then got KO'd in the last second of the fight.

Liakhovich became inactive and overveight, lost to Valuev by clear decision, scored a couple of wins over jorneymen, and then lost to all prospects he faced - Jennings, Helenius, Wilder, Ruiz Jr (Helenius and Ruiz Jr were competitive fights).

He's now 26-7, 16 KOs, and looks like a shot fighter.
He definitely had the skills and abilities, but something went wrong a long time ago, since his fight vs Briggs.

Not clinching in the last minute against Briggs went wrong.

The idiot just had to stand until the final bell.

:yep That was stupid, I remember how he tried to trade punches in the first 2 minutes of final round with Briggs, who is clearly the harder hitter.
Seems like he lost motivation after that loss

What went wrong is he's simply not that good.

    He was.

The Brewster war cost him a lot physically and the Briggs fiasco a lot mentally.

Once Briggs pulled the race card on him, that was all she wrote .

I remember the week of his win over Brewster the main page had an article about him vs Wlad. He was taken seriously as a threat

In hindsight the Brewster win might have been a fluke given the retina injury though he himself had to endure a lot

The Briggs fight he underperformed and got clubbed late

He faded probably enjoyed his money and stopped enjoying his training

He did give Helenius a good 4-5 rounds mighta been ahead when he started getting battered

Shoulda called it a day when Wilder turned him into a seizure victim

Don King and multiple bouts of inactivity where he was out of the ring for well over a year, it was a similar situation to Kotelnyk. Liakhovich was ranked #13 in the WBO and was supposed to be an easy voluntary defense for Brewster but pulled off the win and was punished for it.

Also in the Briggs fight they stopped the ring clock in the last 25 seconds or so after Liakhovich went down so when he was knocked out of the ring the fight should have already been over. Even if this disgraceful corruption didn't take place and the time wasn't expired he should have received a 20 count yet they waved it off at 7 when he started to sit up and try to climb back in the ring.

Most blatant corruption i can remember seeing, Americans will do anything for a HW belt.

He wasn't! Wins over Ahunanya and Guinn! How far did they go? In his prime he was a 'good' heavyweight, in any normal boxing universe minus multiple title belts he would never have been champion. A win over Brewster is not really a big deal. Brewster was getting smashed by Wlad until Wlad fainted and a win against a 'past it' Golota not to mention 'squeezing' by Meehan. Seriously, Brewster was one of the most overrated heavyweights. So in reality, Liahkovich beat who he should have beat and lost to who he should have lost to.

Not sure if serious. Liakhovich would embarrass Kimbo even if he were 50, Kimbo is a complete joke of a fighter. He wouldn't even last one rd with Ruiz, nevermind win several and see the bell like Liakhovich did.

    He shouldn't have to Briggs.

"Fighter cannot be saved by the bell" is commonplace, although I don't know what the regulations were for that fight. If that were the regulation, the stoppage was completely justified since serge was trashed and unfit to continue--doesn't matter how much time was left bc the red isn't supposed to consider that.
