Fighters from the 50s-70s were good, no doubt.

HOWEVER, they were not INVINCIBLE as so many of you seem to now believe.

I understand why people believe this, it's human nature to look back nostalgic on things from the past: http://www.psychologytoday.com/articles/200411/nostalgia-the-past

If you look at the FACTS, it just doesn't add up.
Track and Field for example, look at the records from decades past, and look at today's records.....there's no way the top athletes from 40-years ago could complete on a competitive level with those today. Same goes for boxing.

Today's athletes are bigger, stronger, and have better nutrition and training.

The thread about Frazier beating Wladimir cracks me up. Frazier wouldn't have beaten Lewis, Wlad, or Vitali....he was 5′ 11½″, with a 73" reach, and weighed about 205lbs in his prime. No, size is NOT everything, just look at Julius Long and Valuev. However, when you combine size, supreme conditioning, and skill, there's no way Frazier competes with the best today.

Yes, in decades past there were some very good fighters, and yes, boxing was more popular then (at least in the US) than it is today. That doesn't change the fact, imo, that past era fighters are extremely overrated when comparing them against today's fighters.

I agree to a certain extent, but it's true that Wlad has never faced anyone as good as Joe Frazier.

I agree for the most part. Although I think frazier dusts Wlad off easily. But yea, ESB is for the most part generationally biased.

Ad that's precisely why he loses most of these hypothetical H2H match ups with fighters from the past.

Based on his style, he would be hell for wlad, and to correct you 205 lbs is enough weight to hurt anyone when used properly.

But yes in general old timers are regarded to high at times, such as sonny liston.

I have seen him in many top 5 heavyweights of all time.

    ridiculous i know.

I said it before and I will say it again comparing the fighters from different era's is an futile exercise in AIDS.
Only in 1970 was the 10sec broken for 100m sprint.
    Usain bolt 2010 - 9.58

Comparing them is like saying Usain Bolt would get beaten by Ray Norton...
