Wlad today is a much, much better fighter than when he fought Purity, Sanders, & Brewster.

    Not true.

Boxing has ALWAYS had giant fighters....and they fought 15-20 rounds.

Today's big men can barely go 12:deal

"but when looking at past fighters you need to take into account the difference in era. in nutrition and training. technology.":rofl

You don't even knoiw what that means:nut

If what you're saying is true WHY AREN'T MODERN FIGHTERS BETTER???

Past fighters had THE BEST training:yep and they ate CLEAN FOOD and drank PURE water...free of PESTICIDES and Strontium 90:deal

    They didn't need supliments...which don't work anyway..lol

Technology has NOTHING to do with anything...if so...it sure isn't evident in the sport of boxing..especially the heavyweight division.

And why couldn't he? And don't give me Purity as your reasoning....Wlad's stamina is much better now that it was then.

Judging from the Chambers and first Peter fights, Wladimir carries his stamina well throughout 12, so I don't see any reason he couldn't go three more.

Yeah those louzy 60/70s fighters who went all out for 15 rounds couldn't hack the lightning pace set by such fine athletes as Sam Peter, James Toney, Chris Byrd etc. Get real.

Not what I posted, and you know it...but I wouldn't expect anything less from you.

I never said fighters from eras past were lousy. I said they are overrated compared to today's fighters. I understand why, it's human nature, I just don't agree with it.

The thread about Frazier beating Wladimir cracks me up. Frazier wouldn't have beaten Lewis, Wlad, or Vitali....he was 5′ 11½″, with a 73" reach, and weighed about 205lbs in his prime. No, size is NOT everything, just look at Julius Long and Valuev. However, when you combine size, supreme conditioning, and skill, there's no way Frazier competes with the best today.

I think there are two separate and distinct arguments here. First, would the fighter of today be able to compete with those of yesterday, especially at heavyweight. My opinion is that they probably could, but mostly because of size.

The more convincing and second argument is the skill level of boxer, especially at heavyweight, has gone downhill. Even for the most advent fans of contemporary fighters, this is pretty difficult to dispute. The best fighters have always come from America, sorry world, but its true. And the sport is not what it used to be in the US. Boxing gyms are few and far between and good trainers are hard to find. Our amateur program has never been weaker. Thems the facts, Jack.

Fighters from the past earn the respect they get because they earned it. And it's many of the younger generations that also rightfully so give them high praise, not just the old timers. Please do not compare Lamon Brewster or Ross Purrity to the real greats. I have my respects for the Klitschko's, but unfortunately for them they are going to have a hard time being at the level of an Ali or Louis, but lets just say they are the best of their era. If a slow, hard puncher like Peter in his first encounter took Wlad to hell, I'd hate to see what a George Foreman, Ron Lyle, Ernie Shavers, or Joe Frazier would of done to Wlad. And please don't say Peters was on their level because he wasn't.
