I wouldent say hes the "fighter of the year", not even top 3, but he had a pretty good one. Paul Williams would beat both though!
One can say Pacman beat more seasoned pros and looked better doing it; even though they may have slipped a bit he has been fighting a better quality of opponent. We all know this wasn't the WW Sugar Shane that we remember so I think Pacman accomplished more.
I think that all fighters that fougt for a "unifiction" did way more like Pavlik, Calzaghe even David Haye then a fighter that beat another figher that lost to Baldomir and another that struggled with a nearly dead fighter in Vargas.
Atleast he won by ko against a fighter that was suppost to be the best in the weight class! When did your fighter do that?
Barrera - coming off a loss. Retired after bout, and was at the end of his road. Chose to fight the loser of Barrera - JMM, rather than avenge his draw with JMM. Solis - last 3 opponents before Pac: 9-3, 6-2, 12-2. Morales - Coming off 2 losses (3 of last 4), looked completely shot after second Pac fight. Larios - Coming off a loss fighting at 121 pounds. Moved up to 129 for Pac fight. Morales - Coming off a loss having lost two of last 3 fights. Velazquez - last 3 opponents before Pac: 21-9-2 (coming off 2 losses), 1-6 (are u serious????), 23-4-1. Erik Morales - coming off of a loss defeats Pac. Morales - Beat Pac coming off a loss. 3k Battery - last 3 opponents before Pac: 9-8-3, 7-5-3, and a loss to Art Simonyan...but before Art his opponent was 16-20-3. Yeah tough competition.
Cotto is in a deeper division but Pacman still has done more up to this point. I'd like to see what Cotto's oppopents records were like and who they beat. Cotto just doesn't have much on Pac up to this point.
Depends if you thought Cotto beat Mosley. Many myself included had Mosley winning. Mayweather, Calazage, Juan Diaz, David Haye, Hatton, Pacman, Williams all had very good years
This is a helluva list ...Cotto resume is very impressive.:yep Shane Mosley...44-4 Zab Judah...34-4 Oktay Urkal...38-3 Carlos Quintana...23-0 Paul Malignaggi...21-0 Gianluca Branco...36-1 Ricardo Torres...28-0 Mohamad Abdulaev...15-1 DeMarcus Corley...29-3 Randall Bailey...28-4 Kelson Pinto....21-0 Lovemore N'dou...38-6 Victoriano Sosa...37-3 Carlos Maussa....17-0
