39-0 not just undefeated never been dropped..and don't say he's been down cause he took a knee after he hurt his hand naw he's NEVER been dropped NEVER EVEN CLOSE
it's still one fight. Every fighter in history had off nights. And 5% off with a rotator-cuff tear is still impressive. I loved Roy in his prime, but do you consider him a more complete fighter?
he's not my favorite by a longshot! I hate the Floyd haters, the Cotto haters, Calzaghe haters, Hopkins haters, etc. I give Floyd a lot of respect for his fight game, a lot. I feel he's going to influence a lot of the changes in conventional technique in the next few generations of fighters with his efficiency and effective defense.
What's the big deal with intricacies such as who has the best technical defence? Roy Jones achieved more, was a hell of a lot more exciting to watch and in accordance will be ranked higher by most non-huggers. Unless, Mayweather does something pretty spectacular, like beating Cotto RJJ was the better fighter
I feel that they are both pretty complete. Floyd is perhaps slightly better on the inside. So he is perhaps a "more complete" fighter in terms of all round fighting. To put some effort in, Speed of hand and foot: Roy Jones Jr Power: Roy Jones Jr (it is not close) Defense: Even Footwork: Roy Jones Jr his ability to get in and out of range was unreal. Combination punching: Roy Jones Jr (it is not even close) So Roy was a better fighter but he may not have been technically more complete. :good
i think most historians disagree. Bert Sugar ranks Floyd over Roy. And i'll take his opinion of yours, no offense cus' Bert's the main man. Those two knockout losses weigh heavy on Roy's legacy. And with every big fight Roy had, he'd fight 4 Sharmba Mitchell's in a row. I rank Hopkins at 1 in achievement for the generation, Floyd at 2, and Roy at 3.
I give Floyd footwork due to balance. He's got superb balance, and always has a stable base. But speed of foot and hand i give to Roy, and combination punching i give to Roy. I give accuracy and jab to Floyd (love Floyd's jab to the body, usually set to follow an overhand right). I tend to weigh heavy on technique (where i rank Floyd higher), but in pure athleticism (and the application of such) i rank Roy higher. Ring intelligence i give Floyd. i very rarely admit it, but i was a RJJ groupie back in the day...i have since never allowed myself to be a true fan of a fighter rather a fan of boxing as a whole...that Tarver 2 fight crushed me.
To be honest, I do not rank technical skills vs atheltisisim. I would rather talk about who was better in the ring. Roy at 160-168 was the best H2H fighter ever. Also as for the ranking either Benard or Floyd above Roy in terms of achivement, it boggles the mind.
