friday night fights does this all the time..feeding 12-12 fighters against there undefeted house fighters..its like bringing a lamb to slughter..and its not helping there fighter.. just padding there record..i know all fighters are brought along this way..but come on its sickly unfair sometimes.
Say what you will about Teddy you can tell he's getting sick of it too. That Ishe Smith vs. Jacobs fight would be perfect for FNF
I agree, however this has been going on forever (well for as long as I can remember), I remember on of Frank Bruno's early fights, Bruno a mass of muscle with a good punch , opponent some 5'8 200lb Canadian with a impressive pot belly, kinda like Homer Simpson's dad (he must have been 50 yoa at least). Bruno wanders across the ring pokes this guy gently in the belly and he folds over, didn't get up for 10 Min's. Anyway, I think maybe just a run of bad matches, mainly on Friday Night Fights which I have been watching since it started. Gets annoying watching basically the same fight 4 times every Friday, prospect V hopeless case = quick KO, repeated over and over and over.
I agree with this, that fight where Juan Velasquez got done over a few weeks back was a classic example: the guy just didn't have the guts to pull it off. A great example of a tough guy with an average record pulling it off against an overprotected fighter.
Happens everywhere all the time. Last friday, I got to see a 17 second fight live. Talk about a mismatch. The loser was 0-5 and was KO'd in every fight.
You don't always have to have great names on a card to make it an outstanding night of boxing. Sometimes all you need is good matchmaking and you have yourself a stellar evening of boxing. And FNF isn't the only culprit, HBO is guilty of this practice as well pitting top names against absolute no-hopers on a failry regular basis. Matchmaking is where Showtime has the edge on HBO. They don't always have the biggest names, but Showtime fights tend to be more competitive.
