I don't mind in the least that Khan has chased the Mayweather fight. It's the way he's went about it and his sense of self entitlement that annoy me. All logic points to Khan-Brook being next if Amir doesn't get the Mayweather fight. But since when has logic ruled in "Khanworld"?
It is a tough one deciding how good Amir's advisors are. His choice of opponents since the Garcia loss have been carefully picked in a way that has not got Amir much credit from the fans, but, in the weird world of Mayweather, it may seem a viable matchup to Floyd. If Khan does get the Mayweather fight, then his advisors have done well, but, it is another blow to boxing - cherry pick favourable opponents to land the biggest prize in world boxing. It is like deliberately rigging the FA cup draw so as you make it to the final without facing any premiership opposition...and all your matches are at home. Khan is saying that a Mayweather fight is imminent. There is a part of me that is hoping that Floyd has not intention of facing Khan, but is just stringing him along for a laugh. Then to add insult to injury, Floyd chooses Brook as his next opponent.
:good That is another good read from you. If Khan gets the Mayweather fight then you could say that his advisors have done a fantastic job, as there is no way his victories since the Garcia fight entitle him to a Floyd bout. And the fact that Amir is with Haymon certainly helps his cause a great deal. That said, if Amir does not secure the Floyd fight his advisors will have clearly done a horrendous job. I would love to see Floyd blank Khan and fight Cotto. It would be a more competitive fight at least and it would almost certainly compel Amir to fight Brook, which would be a great match-up.
:good I think Floyd probably will go with Cotto. Cotto holds some middleweight belt and is seen as the linear champion in that division, so it is another world championship in another weight division for Floyd. It will also do bigger numbers in America than a Khan fight will. If not Cotto, then another big pay day against Canelo. If Khan had only realised that beating Brook, Thurman or Bradley would have done more for his standing and increased his fan base in America and given him a better chance of justifiably landing the Floyd fight.
Khan has turned down Bradley and Brook in the last couple of months. Thurman is a genuine welterweight so it's unlikely Khan will fight him.
