Tonight, we witnessed a FANTASTIC fight between two great fighters. One that went back and forth throughout.

The fight ended in a SD to a fighter who dominated some rounds and even scored a KD. The loser also dominated some rounds as well...but came up short. The fight itself was close.

There were quite a few rounds that were also close. Rounds that could have went to either man...I counted 3 of em...meaning in all honesty, the win could have went to either as well. Now regardless of how you scored these rounds, coupled in with the dominated rounds from both men and the KD, your still left with a close fight....

So answer me...how does this compute into a robbery?

I remember Roy Jones Jr in the olympics....where he obliterated his opponent, hitting him at will and rarely getting hit at all. After the fight, his opponent picked him up and lifted him in the air. BUT HE ENDED UP LOSING!!! THAT my friends is a robbery.

I remember seeing Pernell Whitaker vs Jose Luis Ramirez 1. In this fight, Whitaker arguably won every round...maybe, and I mean MAYBE losing 2....on the way to a LOSS!!!!??? THAT again, was a robbery.

I remember, on suggestion of a poster on here, watching Robin Reid fight Sven Ottke. During the fight, Reid was actually warned for...get this now...HITTING OTTKE!!! Not hitting him low, or behind the head...but HITTING HIM!!!! Well, needless to say, dispite still winning the fight, he ended up with the LOSS!!! This again, is a robbery.

Nowadays on this site, it seems everytime there is a close fight (hell even in the clear wins, some people cry robbery for the loser on here...for example, Jones - Trinidad) there is an outcry on this site of ROBBERY THIS AND ROBBERY THAT!!! Its downright insulting to the ones I mentioned above...as well as many many other REAL robberies...

Tonight was not a robbery. Tonight was a close fight that went to one fighter over another.

This robbery bs needs to stop.

    :hi:

Maybe not a robbery but the victory was GIVEN to the wrong fighter!

    Good post, Sues.

It was a close fight. JMM fans are going to cry robbery, and OK.

But those of us who stand in the middle undertand that either man could have won. I actually scored this bout for Marquez, but a score in favor of Manny is hardly a robbery. It's not even a bad decision.

want to prevent a robbery? knock out your opponent or bust him up so bad the judges clearly know who won.

neither did that tonight, there was no robbery.

if people scream robbery so much why don't they simply stop watching and do something else with their complaints.

I agree...I don't like when close fights are called robberies when they go the other way. For instance: Cotto-Mosley - I thought Mosley won but concede it could have gone either way.

Tonight, however, I didn't see a close fight. I had it 8 rounds to 4 to Marquez. For most of the fight, pacquiao was the one backing off of exchanges, being caught off balance, etc. While Pacquiao had the clear advantage in strength and power, Marquez was hitting him with more accurate, quality shots.

Is robbery thrown around too liberally around here? Absolutely. It is, however, merited tonight.

    2 fights: 24 rounds, 17-7 Marquez. It's a shame he's 0-1-1.
