Probably, I was just cracking on how Brit boxers (other than amateur stars/Fwankie's darlings) get paid ****. :yep Journeymen in particular. I would certainly hope the average purse is well more than a hundred, but.. :err
I read that Tony Booth would be one of the top earners in Britain every year when he was fighting. Apparently he got £5k for the Haye fight.
if only... An associate of mine is a former British Champion from the late 90s. A Lonsdale belt winner, he met a future world champion, and few more world class fighters, even winning a couple of them bouts. But despite that he never made more than £50,000 gross (taxes and expenses need to be taken off that) for a fight. A Journeyman is going to struggle even in this era to take home £100 net.
you can make more than £100 on the dole, he fights nearly everyweek so he must be making a least a few hundred per fight to even be worth his while
He'll be on 2-250 a round. In the late 90s 50k for a British title fight was a fortune, a fighter would struggle to command that these days.
Wow, fair play to the guy in this day and age.. with that kind of record too, the motivation to keep going is highly commendable.
Purse minus traveling expenses, training fees, seconds fees, BBB of C fees and tax equals virtually nothing for someone like Razak. Like most journeyman, the man boxes for a hobby rather than a job. I suspect he is the employee for someone and not on a set purse for most of his fights, with the occasional 'freelance' jobs.
