    Great idea to do this.

Just goes to show that if middleweight is "weak" now, then it was abysmal before. The same for heavyweight. Only division that imho is much stronger now and doesn't reflect in the comparison is cruiserweight. No Usyk, Gassiev. They are two monsters at the weight.

Wlad looked like crap vs Jennings.

He didn't exactly look stellar against Eddie Chambers. Emanuel Steward was cursing him out before the 12th round, pleading with him to do anything against a doughy guy with no power at all who Wlad had been tentatively jabbing for a half hour. (LOL)

Well, like I told George, this is a flawed but still 'pretty good' way to gauge respective quality in each time period, IMO. Sure you might have a couple of guys here and there who at one given time are the best in the division but don't happen to be holding a title - but that was equally capable of being true in 2010 as in 2020, and statistically in the fractured-belts era probably averages out to being true about the same amount of time any given year.

In other words, the overall results likely aren't being skewed that much by those couple of glaring omissions. For the most part a list of champs will give you an indicator of who the best were.

    As for Usyk & Gassiev...

You guys realize that both of them are heavyweights now, right? Usyk has already made the jump and Gassiev has been very publicly outspoken about his wishes to permanently campaign there (in fact it was a lynchpin of his deal w/ Hearn). I'd be very surprised if either of them ever made 200lb again in their professional careers.

I disagree. In all of Wlad's title defenses with Steward in his corner, he looked better than in all the ones after Steward had died. Whether there's a correlation there or that just marks the period of his natural decline, who knows (my guess is a combination of both).

Five years can be quite a gulf when you're on the slide.

2010 was stronger by virtue of wlad and vitali.

I disagree. He certainly looked good against Pulev the fight before Jennings. Wlad's win over the undefeated Pulev may have been the best win of his 2006-2015 title run.

Probably. Best win =/= best performance.

Whoops, meant to post Głowacki's name in at CW. The light heavyweight WBO belt also happens to be vacant, that should read "#1 contender is Gilberto Ramírez Sánchez. I'll fix it now.

One detail slipping the cracks after working on that behemoth OP for an hour is pretty good. :sisi1

Lmao people picking vitali/haye and wladimir over Fury/joshua. Simply laughable.

41 year old Wlad (who was inactive for 2 years) went life and death with AJ who is 15 years younger then him. Let's laugh now. Hahahaha
