Competition matters more than record. I sparred with some good kids and then were surprised to hear that they were only 8-8 or something like that.

joe Louis got knocked down 7 times in his first amateur fight, Marciano was disqualified in his.
amateur judging over 3 rounds is subjective anyway and picking up a loss or 2 shouldn't matter

Amateur records can be very vague in measuring individual talent and it's unfortunate that many shitty factors affect the structure of a record. Stat padders exist, bad trainers, bad advice. In my area, having lots of Mexican influence, shitty judges favor a more aggressive fighter, which kinda forces amateur boxers to fight a certain way they otherwise wouldn't.

Yeah very true, also out of my 14 fights or so I've had about 4 or 5 fights which I lost but nearly everyone watching thought I won the fight and said I was robbed. So that doesn't do my record any favours!

I had quite a few fights that could have gone either way including one lad who I boxed 3 times, I won the first but he thought he won. he won the second but I thought I won and the third went to me which was the only one we thought the judges got right.
I got told on a coaching course recently that judges are now going to favour aggressive boxers which has come from AIBA.
body punching has always been overlooked in the amateurs for some reason

Yeah shame the judging has to ruin such a good sport!

And about the body punching, I guess it's because it doesn't look as clean as a straight shot to the head which snaps someone's head back.

  9. I've seen amateur fights where excellent body shots have been landed by both fighters and not one of them registered a single point. It makes body attacks almost a waste of time unless it is with a view to trying to make your opponent drop his hands to make him open for a head shot.
