I think that there is a historical significance in fighting at Madison Square Garden, it means a fighter has reached the big leagues. I remember watching Muhammad Ali vs Zora Folley, That fight happened on March 22 1967 right before Muhammad Ali's ban from boxing due to his Draft Evasion conviction. Zora Folley was the WBA's no. 1 contender at that time, he did give a good account of himself early in the bout but fell prey to Ali's lightning right hand in round 7.

Oh most definitely. Look how Ali victims are in "Facing Ali" (both book and film). Most of them were extremely proud of fighting for the title. Bert Cooper won some sort of C-level organizational belt, and said afterward something like, "I didn't think this title was worth anything, but now that I've got it, it's pretty great."
